I keep going back to the rewatch posts to see 'what happened when' in the drama, so I thought I'd compile all the episode summaries in one place, rather than endlessly scrolling through the tag. I figured I might as well post them here, in case anyone else would find them useful.

Most of the pics are copied from the original posts, but I snagged one or two from Scene Discussions.

I’ve collected data of all the times Zhao Yunlan touches the hallows.
My criteria were: Zhao Yunlan has to make skin contact with any of the four hallows, on screen. Holding them in a bag does not count.

The columns are:
Episode & timestamp: Self-explanatory
Hallow: The hallow being touched
Description: A short summary of what he is doing with the hallow
Health consequences: How touching the hallow impacts his health
Benefits: What benefit came of touching the hallow, if any

Using the last two columns, we can easily judge whether fondling the hallows was worth it for Zhao Yunlan in any given instance.

And now some stats. Note that the percentages don’t necessarily add up to 100%, because he touches multiple hallows at once sometimes.

Zhao Yunlan touches the hallows a total of 22 times in 18 different episodes. This is 45% of episodes.
An honourable mention goes to episode 15, where Zhao Yunlan tries to touch a hallow and gets as far as lifting its dome, but is physically stopped by Shen Wei.

I was surprised how dominant the sundial was compared to the other three. Also, he touched them in less than half of all episodes, when it feels like he is constantly fondling them. The power of statistics!

EDIT: I had missed a benefit! The percentage of beneficial outcomes has now risen to 45%!

Why does this chart exist? Because I was writing a fic set in episode 35, immediately after Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan return from the YOHE wormhole (A Thread as Red as Blood). I wanted it to slot neatly into canon, so I rewatched the scenes around it - but of course the SID team and their safety would be on Zhao Yunlan's mind, and the immediately surrounding scenes were no help. I wanted to figure out where they all were, and what Da Qing might have told Zhao Yunlan ... and then I got a bit carried away ... *g*

Questions:

Does any part of this chart surprise you? Which missing bit would you most like to know more about? Do you know any fic set during the missing time/in between these scenes?

What do you think Chu Shuzhi was doing during those two or three days we don't hear from him? Especially given the leaks calling him a murderer, and the Inspectorate being after him.

Where did Da Qing go after parting with Zhao Yunlan and Chu Shuzhi? Did he deliberately set out to meet up with Shen Wei, or did they run into each other accidentally? Was Shen Wei still at home when Zhao Yunlan, Da Qing and Chu Shuzhi were there? Or did he leave before them, and Da Qing set out to find him? FWIW, I think Zhao Yunlan would be more worried if Shen Wei were already absent. But I can never decide whether Da Qing sounds suprised to see Shen Wei in the street.

How long do you think Zhu Hong lasted staying at Cong Bo's? How did she end up meeting Da Qing?

Did Da Qing tell the others Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei vanished into a wormhole? How did he hear about Ye Zun declaring war? (For that matter, how was that declaration communicated to Haixing?)

Why did Zhao Yunlan, Shen Wei and Da Qing leave the Hallows at the SID when they left after the return from the wormhole?

After the return from the wormhole, when did Shen Wei get the opportunity to talk to Da Qing without Zhao Yunlan? Was it just Zhao Yunlan going to the loo, or is there more missing? *g*

A full Chinese script of Guardian is now available here for anyone interested (separated by episode, with timestamps, locations, and speakers indicated). aturnofphrase made the Google doc, set up the format, and saw to the first few episodes, and I filled in the rest. Let me know re any errors, omissions, etc. you may notice.

Just a heads-up that I've been through the re-watches so far and have taken notes of things that needed to be amended up to (and including) episode 13. I updated the subs in the Starter Pack and in the softsubs folder (but only the 25fps, I have no idea if anyone at all uses the others).

The updated subs have new timestamps.

I'll always be happy -- very happy, delighted even -- to be told if there's something I can make better, so don't be shy!

Also, did you all see

dragoncityinteriordesign's post yesterday? Turns out that the Black-Cloaked Envoy's seal reads "镇恶者之心", the first part of "镇恶者之心，扬善者之德" aka "suppress the heart of the evil, spread the virtue of the kind" - the line Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan both quote separately in episode 40. So this is how Zhao Yunlan knew Shen Wei was thinking of that line, because it was already the Envoy's! ♥ ♥ ♥

It has a lot of posts with specific small details around and about Dragon City that seems like it could be very handy! Additional: they've also offered screenshot assistance to anyone doing fanwork that needs a reference (now that Guardian has been taken off streaming sites).

This is uhhh fully a labor of love for Guardian as Mandarin is fully a fourth language for me that I mostly started at two years ago.
This is also a labor of love for the fandom which is really nice as I'm a Cantonese speaker who uses traditional characters and actually does not have a simplified output method, so every time I add something like a location tag, I have to use a traditional to simplified translator 😅
Anyway the point is, definitely let me know if you spot anything glaringly off

Edit 2: because I still don't understand Dreamwidth, comment your preference for fixing or not fixing the spelling errors of the English props if you have a preference (I'm really, really sorry if me editing this multiple times is giving anyone notifications)

Another slow-going project: I’m (very slowly) making my way through the show and making a list of the background music – both on the ost and not – with timestamps and scenes. It’s very much a work in progress, but here’s a link to the doc. I'm only on episode four, at the moment. Each episode has its own sheet.

Here’s a link to a google doc where I’ve dumped all of solo’s subtitles. I’m slowly going through and adding who says what. I’ve been doing it from memory so far, but am slowly rewatching the show and double checking – also adding timestamps and brief location/scene notes. As of this post, I’ve gotten to episode 12 by memory, but episodes 1 and 2 have been checked against the episodes.

Going forward: Episodes with timestamps have been checked against the episodes, otherwise it’s from what I remember. Please comment if you see any mistakes in the checked episodes or have comments/suggestions/corrections.

Also, the episode headings are in the outline sidebar, but the page headers are incorrect because google docs is annoying. Once I finish going through all the episodes, I’ll go back and fix that somehow.

You know how it goes: you're thinking about Guardian (as you do), or you're writing a Guardian fic, or someone asks a Guardian-related question, and there's this thing niggling at the back of your head that you can't quite pin down. I posted a massive analysis of Shen Wei's modern-day Heipaoshi get-up that I've been working on for a few weeks over on my journal - forewarning, there are a LOT of fairly big images so it is not mobile/low-bandwidth friendly.

This was mostly to satisfy myself and to practice trying to put my costume-analyzing tendancies in a form other people can understand, but hopefully it will be of use/interest to some? Also if I have to know that none of these blacks match, so does everyone else.

Someone on the Guardian discord asked if there was a random ship generator, and after a couple people searching didn't turn up anything, I offered to script one up real quick, and I figured I might as well share it here (particularly as the character list comes from another post here, heh. Generator is here, used it as an excuse to learn how Github Pages work so I didn't have to fuss with hosting.
