FYI for folks buying the novel: the glossary/back matter that went to print for volume 2 isn't the most up-to-date version*, so 7S has posted the updates/corrections for it under Errata on the book's page. (Some of the entries are spoilery for the volume, but the cosmology notes are very helpful, so there are pros and cons to checking it out while still reading the book.)

*Alas, no book ever makes it out into the world without mishaps.

There's been a rumour that Zhu Yilong and Bai Yu filmed a scene together, and it looks like it's true!

Here's hoping we'll get actual confirmation some time in the foreseeable future, but I'm seriously delighted because I didn't expect that to happen any time soon, if at all.

Over a year ago, there was news about a Guardian webmovie that was supposed to film soon. Well, looks like it's actually happening now! Except that rather than wuxia, it seems to be Republican era ...?

(Who knows! And either way, can't wait to see what comes of it.)

Curious and with nothing better to do, I decided to find out which scenes were cut.

What I found was this:

Update: I went to leave comments about this on YouTube and found a translator's note in the subs on episode 32, saying they were re-synced on May 24, 2020. Starting "two months ago," lots of complaints about unsynced subs have been made on episode 23.

A head's up for anyone rewatching or reccing Guardian to first-time watchers:

The YouTube YoYo Television episodes have had scenes cut out of them. As far as I can tell these cuts don't correspond to the Youku censored edition, but you can see an example of it at the 36:10 mark here in episode 20. That episode is over a minute shorter than the original version.

The good news is that Viki still appears to have the uncut, original episodes, available here.

Guardian has appeared onto Viki! This is not a drill!

Episode listing. There are no Chinese hardsubs and at least episode 1 claims to be 100% engsubbed, but the Orange Biscuit subs at least are better quality. Most of the episodes are completely subbed.

A quick check of episode 40 reveals a reunion that got axed in the censored version, so it's likely the original cut.

The popular streaming site Viki has licensed Guardian, and is now listing it as coming soon on their site. It's unclear what this will mean for the availability of Guardian on YouTube.

china_shop wondered if I would do more little round-ups! The answer is YES (ish). I'm testing the waters, so to speak. How much content fandom produces versus my capacity to keep up. Maybe this is a project for multiple people, or one that's not even necessary to undertake! I'll be doping these for the next two or three months just to see how it goes.

Currently I've separated it into three categories - fic, fanart, and the catch-all 'etc.'.

I'll attempt to link every fic in English that I find (please feel free to link the ones I've missed out - especially in this one, which is done in a rush due to it being holiday season), in order to do a round-up of fanfic that's been posted in the last ten days. The fanart section will work a bit differently, and will be comprised of pieces I find on weibo or twitter. Due to the amount of content produced by Korean and Chinese fandom, it'll be less a round-up and more a rec list of 10, just to share some lovely pictures to people who don't bother with either site.

PLEASE DO NOT POST THE ART ON YOUR OWN TWITTERS, JOURNALS OR BLOGS WITHOUT THE EXPRESS PERMISSION OF THE ARTISTS.

Lastly, 'etc' will just be fanvideos, news. It's not as relevant currently, since it's pretty empty at this time.

Quick heads up for people: There's going to be a two parter Guardian Web movie that begins filming in May. As is typical of Chinese web movies made to capitalize on popular shows, it will have a different cast and has a 99% chance to be crap. BUT on the 1% chance it's a decent adaptation, I figure I'd bring the news here.

From the info available, it will be guzhuang (historical period piece) and everyone is around 20. And there's wuxia? There's mentions of martial arts at any rate. Full Poster
