Guardian coming to Viki
The popular streaming site Viki has licensed Guardian, and is now listing it as coming soon on their site. It's unclear what this will mean for the availability of Guardian on YouTube.

If nothing else, it might mean better subs? Viki's subbing teams are, well, teams, with multiple people who go over the timing and translation. (IIRC they also count as semipro?) The real question is whether it's the original cut or the edited cut, where a bunch of blood, guts, and Ye Zun was removed.

Also, I've DL'd them but I think they're saved to the YouTube app on that device and so would be gone from my device if they were taken down? I guess I need to figure out how to export them...

Good luck saving the files! I used third party software to download them to my harddrive with the subs in a separate file.

Also, I'm glad to know I watched the original cut. :)

There's also a giant archive of all original eps and original subs on MEGA, just in case anyone wants that for backup- I don't know who the original compiler was.

Though more exposure is definitely a good thing, if it's the cut version there isn't much point, since some of the most poignant scenes (like parts of the last battle and the finale, WTF?) were cut.
Thanks for the heads-up!

Does anyone know of a Shen-Wei-levels of technical illiteracy tutorial for using a downloader that will grab the subtitles? I...might've dropped out of IT in 2001 and never looked back. eeep

1) Download the program, and install it by clicking on the downloaded file
2) Open the program
3) Go to Episode 1 of Guardian with subtitles on YouTube
4) Copy the URL
5) Go to 4K Video Downloader and click "Paste Link"
6) The program will now parse the information and let you know if you've accidentally copied something else instead (this step might take a while)
7) A menu with options like resolution (higher is better!) and subs (pick the English) will appear
8) After clicking the things you want you have to browse around your files to decide where you want it on your harddrive
9) Go to Episode 2 of Guardian, repeat
(If you have the paid version it can pull all the videos on a playlist for you from one link, so there's no need for the repeat!)

Or at least, I can't figure out how to make it happen. *sobs*
One at a time works perfectly, though.

What regions?

But that didn't happen with Suddenly This Summer nor with Dreamlike, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be the same here.
I already have all the eps, so it doesn't make a difference for me. (although... if they are in better quality on viki, that might be worth it. If they're the uncut versions, which I *highly* doubt. But I finally have a VIP account at viki after four months of hard work, so... maybe that will come in handy at some point, after all.)
