Hi, I'm Starrie Wolf, doctor by day, scientist by night, and writer all the time.

Think I started watching Guardian because one of my friends recommended it some time in 2018, back when we were in a mood for Asian fantasy/sci-fi. Actually I watched episode 1, went to read the book instead, and then came back to finish the other 39 episodes.

Favourite character is Shen Wei, although Zhao Yunlan is a very close second XD favourite scene, uhhh, has to be either the time ZYL catches SW self-mutilating, or the part when ZYL pretends to have had his personality swapped, clutches onto SW's sleeve and whines in a high voice, "Black-Cloaked Envoy, stay a while?"

If I were dixingren I want an ability like a time turner... too few hours in the day for my work.

Hi, I'm sakana17 and I'm entering my 2nd month of obsessing over Guardian. I started watching it because ranalore posted about it and it sounded amazing. And it is! Right now I'm solely focused on the drama and haven't investigated the novel.

I love Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan both (individually & together), I love the team/found family, I love the details & world-building.

I have too many favorite scenes! But one I just rewatched last night is a very small moment but in episode 14 when Deputy Minister Guo invites Zhao Yunlan to dinner and Shen Wei sort of has this sidelook to ZYL and says he'll come too, oh and ZYL's hand is on his shoulder and when they leave he slides it across. There is so much in episode 14 that I love (driving to the Inspectorate scene!) but this small moment had such a nice couple vibe.

That is a delightful scene, yes! In an episode full of delightful stuff. I love how they just agree that Shen Wei will come along, without consulting the person issuing the invitation. *g*

Hello, I'm ratbones, fifteen minutes late with a fresh new account and zero Dreamwidth experience! I'm a rookie writer. I'm just bumbling around with my lil gameface on trying to figure out how to participate in any of this glorious fannish activity, because I've only ever lurked.

I first watched Guardian way back in July 2018 and went straight from the last episode to AO3 (okay, with some crying in between), but I made the usual assumption that the most I'd contribute would be leaving guest kudos. It took me till this spring, when my Guardian problem had not abated AT ALL, to decide this was getting ridiculous and I needed to write something. Having stuck one toe out of my cave, I was then dragged the rest of the way into the light by this super welcoming fandom, for which I am very grateful.

I really can't start listing favorite scenes or I'll be at it all day, but one underrated scene has been popping up in my head and making me laugh recently. In Episode 34, when there are arrest warrants out for the whole SID team, Shen Wei gets recognized on the street by a couple of officers. When his innocent face doesn't work, he clocks both of them, says, "My apologies," and runs away. So polite!

Hello! I'm glymr. Years and years ago I was into Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and a bit of DN Angel.

I lost my mojo for awhile, then found it again and participated heavily on LJ and DW in the DC comic fandom, mostly Batman, Superman, Robin-related stuff (I think about 90% of the stuff I wrote back then featured Tim Drake slashed with either Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, or Connor Kent). I guess some people remember Perennial and my collab Kings Among Runaways from back then.

When TPTB at DC comics decided to kill the great stuff that they were bringing out, I lost my mojo again. I was out of fandom for a long time, but last year fell heavily into Dresden Files (a fandom which is pretty dead, even if the series is still technically coming out) and Detroit: Become Human (a game which has an active fandom on Twitter). Recently I fell much more heavily into Guardian after reading the Rec Center newsletter's explainer and watching all of it in about 6 days or so.

I just. Can't stop thinking about it. Reading about it. Watching it. Obsessing about it...

I'm a bit late to the party, but it looks like this is still an active fandom, so. *deep breath*

Hi all! I'm juniper (june) on AO3 and Guardian has taken over my life. I got into the fandom through Xparrot's posts on AO3 and Tumblr. I don't remember how, exactly... I think I was like "ooo pretty" and "ooo gay" and then I read one of her Guardian fics and was like "fuck I need to watch this now." And then I did. And now I'm in the middle of rewatching. And everything hurts (but in a good way).

My favorite scenes are many but two Classics that come to mind are:
- that scene where Zhao Yunlan touches the Longevity Dial is about to pass out (or actually passes out?) and his nose bleeds and Shen Wei is furious with him and hits a ladder before angrily using a handkerchief to scrub the blood from ZYL's face
- the jade pendant reveal--NEVER OVER IT!!

I've been listening to the soundtrack on loop while combing AO3 for fic; my life is a shambles. #tenthousandyears

OMG, yes! This scene is one of my favourites too, especially the aggressive nose-wiping. Also, the way Shen Wei steps right between Zhao Yunlan's legs for it. :D

I first heard Guardian as a drama that was adapted from a BL novel. Then I dig through Novelupdates to find the link to the novel translation. Then I started to watch the series. And the rest is history ;)

One of my favorite scene in the novel is Zhao Yunlan coming out to his mom.

Hello! I'm new here and still making my way through the drama; I also plan to start the novel at some point.

I wound up in Guardian fandom because of a rec in Snowflake Challenge, which came with a really lovely and well-made music video that made me ship ZYL/SW hard. Then, I started the drama on the whim and fell in love...basically starting at the intro.

I'm enjoying the show a lot: this show manages at once to feel comfortable and exciting (and very iddy!), and it is making me happy.

As for favorite scene: I am really liking the entire beginning of episode 14, with Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan having a conversation and also, the dumpling making. Because I am greedy and I cannot pick one scene.

Hi, I'm Megan. I'm new to Guardian, and completely new to this community.

I first heard of Guardian at escapade_con 2019, and resisted all the way through the 2020 convention. but glymr is very successful at conveying excitement, so now I've binged all 40 episodes, and am rewatching (with a friend who's skeptical). I have read some great fiction, and found a few awesome vids. I haven't played much on Dreamwidth, but I was told this is the place to be, so here I am.

Also, because I'm that kind of geek, I have started to build out the Guardian page on fanlore. I know there are many other resources, but I selfishly want to keep things in the places that are familiar to me. I am grateful to anyone who wants to flesh things out. Hello! I'm Alicia, another newcomer to Guardian. I came across it via the MDZS/CQL fandom on tumblr - a few of the people I followed started posting gifsets of it, and I wanted to know more about the very very pretty fellow with the glasses so ended up watching the entire show in one weekend and then reading the novel. I'm now making my fiancee sit through the rewatch with me, and she is very patiently putting up with me gushing over how pretty Zhu Yilong is. Tumblr is also where I found out that the place to be for Guardian fandom is here, so I dusted off my old DW account that I'd almost forgot I had and here I am :-)

Unsurprisingly, my favourite character is Shen Wei, with Chu Shuzhi a close second.

I've actually come to this community in search for a beta, but figured I should say hi before I start asking for things. >_> I recently got into c-drama, and actually started out with Nirvana in Fire--I did realize afterwards that it's kind of a crazy choice to watch as a first c-drama for someone who has no clue about anything c-drama or China-related, but at the time, the pretty robes caught my attention.

Anyway, after that emotional roller coaster, I wanted something light and fun, so I watched Guardian--which was exactly the lighthearted fun I was looking for, up to the final few episodes, when it turned fairly upsetting. When I'm upset, I tend to write fic, which is how I've ended up with what is now coming up to 40k words of a finale fix-it. I think it's got another 5 or 6k in it, so I'm harboring the vague hope of being able to post it during the upcoming Guardian Week. (That's so soon, though. D: We'll see.)

This makes me familiar with the drama, entirely unfamiliar with the novel. My uncontested fave is Zhao Yunlan, though I do of course also enjoy Shen Wei. And Da Qing, and Zhu Hong, and Lao Chu and Xiao Guo. I even have a soft spot for Lin Jing; he doesn't get enough credit for his inventions. I love the zany found-family feel of the show, and enjoy all the bickering. It's a lot of fun to write, that's for sure. :D

I’m new to Guardian (and kind of to being/posting online in general). I came to Guardian in a semi-roundabout way from The Untamed. Sort of (found The Untamed back in April 2020 from a fmv that an artist I follow shared, then, after several months of a ton of listening to The Untamed OST and emvs, found Guardian in October/November from youtube’s suggestion of the mv for We Won’t Be Falling). I kind of fell in love with the soundtrack first, and then found and fell for the drama. Still working my way – extremely slowly – through the novel.
I only very recently started writing fanfic. I mostly do/did original works until early 2020 when a perfect storm of things led to my brain pretty much shutting down. Guardian's managed to help my brain start to piece itself back together (somewhat) and I’m slowly getting back into writing. Very tentatively venturing out into the largely unknown world of fandom(s).
Favorite scene – extremely tough question with multiple answers. I love the interactions between Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan (and the rest of the SID family), but scenes I love to listen to repeatedly: episode 9, the flashback of Shen Wei realizing he may have exposed his cover; episode 24, when Zhao Yunlan is stuck in the video game in the hospital; episode 38, the scene where Shen Wei says “You’re right. My energy is black. My eyes, my hair, even my soul is black. But the blood I bleed is red. Just like theirs” (cannot express my love for that line enough) and the scene where Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan, and Guo Changcheng are fleeing the palace (even if those last two always make me cry). Also, in general, love episodes 1-2, 8-11, and 13-14.

Hi, hello! I'm mumble and I watched the first episode a little over two weeks ago and finished this weekend! I'm fine! \o/ This fandom has been super super lovely so far. <3

I started a new DW for my Guardian emotions, so it looks a bit empty right now. Hoping to fill it with things soon!

I don't think I could pinpoint a favorite scene that's not super obvious; there's just the ones that stick out as big relationship moments, like the kneeling! in the rain! and the kitchen knife argument, and the bomb scene slash marriage proposal. Gun to my head, I think the "You're worth it." - "THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!" would be The One for me right now, for all the subtext winding its way through what's said out loud, and BY putting so much raw sadness into that "HUH?" and Z1L's stunned expression at his outburst. It was all Very Good. 😭

(Actually, the lollipop scene with baby Shen Wei was what made me watch the show in the first place, so shoutout to aurum for showing it to me after I expressed a tiny bit of interest in the Guardian gifs on my dash.)

Hiya! Another months-long lurker deciding to jump in by making an account. It's been years since I've blogged at all, but I'm slowly trying to get back into writing by starting over on a different platform.

While I've studied Chinese in university and have worked in China for a year (pre-pandemic), I didn't find my gateway into Chinese media until last summer. A Youtuber I follow and Netflix had recommended me The Untamed, which officially opened the Cdrama portal for me and got me active again on Tumblr. And among the deluge of CQL/MDZS posts on my dashboard I first heard of Guardian. After a bit of digging, I started Guardian last August on Viki. Then around episode 25, I took a break from the drama to read the novel, finished it, loved the happy ending, and returned to the drama. I wouldn't recommend what I did to my worst enemy... because the drama's ending left me inconsolable for WEEKS ("Flying Through Time" still makes me weep on a good day).

I love both the drama and the novel, and there are too many wonderful moments in both to express my love for. But Shen Wei taking care of Zhao Yunlan when he had gastritis marked the point I was sold on the story and the romance. (The taxi scene was so beautiful that I cried the first time I watched it.)

There are no words for Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong that haven't been said by the fandom because they are all true. I became a fan of Z1L from the first scene, and BY stole my heart with episode 13's mind-control fakeout. They have the best on-screen mutual chemistry I've ever seen, and Weilan will live rent-free in my heart for many years thanks to them.

Though I'm just making myself known to the fandom now, I'm grateful for all the fanfics, podfics, metaposts, fan theories, and creative content found here, on Tumblr, on AO3, and beyond. They've helped me process my many thoughts and feelings. I'm tempted to write my own post-drama-canon-happily-ever-after fic, but I have a bad habit of not finishing what I start, and I'd hate to deprive this fandom of an unfinished story. TT_TT

Hi, I'm micelle. I've been into Guardian since 2019 so I'm really sorry that I haven't posted here. I'm more active on twitter and I keep forgetting to open dreamwidth so I don't know how to use half of the functions on this site.

Anyway, I've been in love with the drama and the novel for 2 years now and I don't really know when it'll stop (signs point to not soon). I mean... until now I still have the same reactions when I re-watch or re-read 😅.

I got into it because I saw it on my timeline and that crack vid on YT basically sealed the deal. I also read the novel in the middle of watching the series (back then the translation wasn't complete) and that's when weilan grabbed me and pulled me down this pit. I'm having a fun time here though. I really enjoyed creating and thinking of random prompts for Guardian (like that bobaAU on twit hehe) and I love how the fandom is so welcoming and supportive of those silly little things I do.

So yeah. I hope that I could remember to open dreamwidth more often. 😅 I also wanna meet the people in here. Thank you.

I haven't been active on Dreamwidth in YEARS and am more active on tumblr. I also am trying (and sort of failing) at Twitter. (I use the same username on all platforms). I am going to try to be more active on DW as I would love to meet more Guardian fans.

I first watched Guardian in September and October of 2020 after a persistent friend kept gently pushing me and leaving me intrigued about the characters thanks to her fic. (Thank you blueberry_ash!!!) I read the novel after I finished the drama, and while I tend to flail more over the dramaverse, I love them both a lot and don't see myself moving on anytime in the foreseeable future.

I have written a few Guardian fics, all are posted on AO3. I haven't taken part in that many official fests, but this fandom seems super welcoming and supportive. Guardian gave me inspiration to write when it was waning for another fandom.

I'm Lauren! I ended up sucked into Guardian May/June of last year. I've watched a lot of dramas throughout the pandemic, but this little show that could is the one that got its claws into my heart and refused to let go (and i love it for that).

I've had Dreamwidth for...many years, but never actually used it (as my page's imported LiveJournal entries can attest to), so i'm very much looking forward to connecting with other fans here! I've been lurking in the fandom for far too long, and I'm hoping to expand my horizons and ACTUALLY be active with more than two or three people (Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that, wouldn't change it for the world, but you know- I've just been so in awe of this fandom's kindness, creativity and dedication for so long and i want to be part of that world, too!)

I ended up in Guardian fandom by way of SHL fandom; I was reading SHL fic last month and I got to a fic that had been inspired by a Guardian fic, so I shrugged my shoulders and clicked on the Guardian fic, and read it - and then I read another Guardian fic and another Guardian fic and then I looked for the drama so I could watch it and now I'm 19 episodes in and have been reading nothing but Guardian fic for at least two weeks straight <.< whoops? ^^;;

I'm just an introvert, it's hard for me. I've been mostly been a lurker in fandom for long time by now but finding a DW community that is active has been a very pleasant surprise. I love this format.

So, I'm Amy and I fell for Guardian at the beginning of the year. I watched the show and read the novel in the fantranslation at the same time and that was an experience. As many things as the drama changed, I was more than surprised at how many things were kept.

The ending made me cry and always will.

I did some writing for the two lovely, self-sacrificing idiots, read a lot more of them. Stared a lot at GIFs and watched a ton of fanvids.

I can't decide between Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan as favorite character; they're a total package deal for me. My favorite scene might be the kitchen scene, very closely followed by their very first meeting (from Zhao Yunlan's POV) and the undershirt scene.

I'm a drama only fan, but yeah, they really did their damnedest to get as much as they could into it, censorship be damned. You can tell they cared. ♥

Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan are such a delight together, self-sacrificing streaks and all! And IMO the undershirt scene is underrated, it's fabulous (and Shen Wei looks amazing in that blank tank top, OMG). :D

Hello hello! I'm Merlin, a 30-something artist/writer/and-some-more from France! I used to be very into japanese drama back in high school and then just. Never went back to Asian entertainment until Guardian literally grabbed me by the throat like a week ago :')
One of my mutuals on Tumblr is very into it and well. You know how it is, you see enough gifsets and you end up curious (my actual journey was "oh that looks like a cute buddycop show! ....Hmm looks kinda queer. .Hold on is that a reincarnation type of deal????) ANYWAYS I started watching the show last Sunday, promptly downloaded the book, finished it in like 4 days and now I'm waiting for the next volume while putting off continuing the show (because i know it ends in tears. wAILS.)

Hi, I'm ride_4ver, inexperienced in any Asian dramas and here due to the Guardian pimpage of glymr and amedia.

I signed up a few moments ago for the read-along that starts this month, thinking that it was all going to be posted online, and then I realized that only excerpts are going to be posted. No way I'm going to be able to get my hands on a hard-copy version of the novel by the start of the read-along. *sigh*

Hullo! I'm Veet or Bellamy. Just watched the show and then read the books and am watching the show again (after devouring as much ChuGuo fanfic as possible). Joined DreamWidth to keep an eye on the Guardian Wishlist and hopefully participate! It's been at least ten years since I've been on one of these journaling sites. I'd love some recommendations for icon makers I can follow until I decide to start making my own again.

I've been into Danmei since about 2020 when I stumbled across the Heaven Official's Blessing donghau and have been slowly finding new ones ever since. Most of my fanworks are for MDZS so far, but I'm excited to jump in here as much as my chronic illness and disability allow. I've got far too many WIPs already but am going to add more, LOL

I think most iconmakers have stopped regularly making many Guardian icons, but if you'd like recs, tinny and abyss_valkyrie have made a lot of excellent ones. You can also find a bunch through the icon tag here on the comm. (tinny has changed her hosting site at one point, so some of the links on the comm may be broken, but the ones on her journal should work.)

I hope you'll have lots of fun with Wishlist, and with this fandom in general!
