Welcome to SID Guardian!

A banner for the SID_Guardian comm on Dreamwidth

Hi, and welcome to SID Guardian!

[community profile] sid_guardian is a noticeboard/community for:

  • linking Guardian fanworks of all kinds

  • linking to Guardian-related news (incl. info about the actors and their other roles) and meta (incl. serious meta, squee, picspams, episode reactions, writing-meta)

  • making Guardian recs, and

  • making fanworks-finder/rec-finder posts.

  • ETA: You can also post content directly to the comm.

Which is to say, it's for letting Guardian fans find each other on Dreamwidth. :)

Please link your Guardian-related posts here! Whether novel or drama, this is the place for it. Don't be shy, and please encourage other Guardian posters to link as well. You can also link to/rec things that have been posted by others.

As the comm develops, we hope to introduce social, discussion and/or prompt posts, but given it's December, we thought we'd start small and manageable.

To kick things off, if you feel like it, tell us a bit about how you ended up in Guardian fandom! Or let us know your favourite character or scene from Guardian, or what your power would be if you were Dixingren.

And remember, there's no tension that can’t be relieved with a lollipop. And if there is, try two lollipops.

Hi!

I look at the datestamp of the last post and feel bit silly but a short while ago I whined on tumblr that I want to make new friends in fandom and, well, I kind of have to reach out for that, right? I'm just an introvert, it's hard for me. I've been mostly been a lurker in fandom for long time by now but finding a DW community that is active has been a very pleasant surprise. I love this format.

So, I'm Amy and I fell for Guardian at the beginning of the year. I watched the show and read the novel in the fantranslation at the same time and that was an experience. As many things as the drama changed, I was more than surprised at how many things were kept.

The ending made me cry and always will.

I did some writing for the two lovely, self-sacrificing idiots, read a lot more of them. Stared a lot at GIFs and watched a ton of fanvids.

I can't decide between Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan as favorite character; they're a total package deal for me. My favorite scene might be the kitchen scene, very closely followed by their very first meeting (from Zhao Yunlan's POV) and the undershirt scene.

I really liked LJ fandom and was sad to see it go so I really hope that I can find my way back to this kind of interaction. <3

I like the drama much more, too, I have to admit, because a lot of the mythological stuff in the novel just flew over my head and the pseudo-sci fi works better for me for a lot of reasons.

The undershirt scene! I don't know how often I have rewinded this. It's cute, it's funny and it's so damn nice to look at. I can understand Zhao Yunlan - I would have wanted to "blow away the dust", too. Ahem.

I was always more of a sci-fi fan and the concept of Dark Energy is so good and intriguing. Also so vague that a writer can bend it pretty much however they want - the possibilites within canon itself are endless. Also, timeloops. I have a weakness for them. Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei are so much fun and they felt so real as characters and I am so fascinated by them. (I like the drama versions of both characters so much more, tbh. It's also the version I seek out fanfic for.) Also... Ye Zun. He's awful but I love watching him wreck havoc.

Yes, SGA was one of the fandoms I was into over the years and one of my major ones; it was so much fun! Although I was a lurker back then, apart from the occasional comment, and under another name. My English back then wasn't good enough for writing, so it was reading only for me. When I dusted off this DW but I decided to keep this icon. I imported it over from LJ once upon a time and I'm kind of attached to it. <3
china_shop: A waist-down icon: a pair of legs slouching against a tree, feet in boots; another pair of legs, facing them, standing upright. Each pair has one knee bent towards the other. (Guardian - SW/ZYL legs)

Hi and welcome! *waves*

Another introvert, here, though I manage to be reasonably non-lurkery on Dreamwidth. It's easier once you get started, I think? (Not that there's anything wrong with lurking! But as you say, reaching out does help with meeting people.) Anyway, so glad you found the comm! Hi! :-)

I watched the show and read the novel in the fantranslation at the same time and that was an experience.

Haha, yeah, I can only imagine. I've been in the fandom for four years, and I still haven't read the novel. /o\ I keep hearing things that make me think it's probably not for me -- whereas I adore pretty much everything about the show. (But this comm is for both canons, of course!)

I can't decide between Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan as favorite character; they're a total package deal for me.

I love this approach! Equal opportunity fannishness FTW! (I started out all-in for Zhao Yunlan but quickly came to appreciate and love Shen Wei, too. :-)

Anyway, like [personal profile] trobadora said, please make yourself at home! Feel free to jump into any of the discussions (they're never closed) and link to Guardian-and-related-fandoms-related stuff at will. ♥

Hi! Yes, being an introvert and wanting to meet new people is a problem. Sadly.

I read the book because I was curious about the changes but I have to admit that I prefert the drama for a variety of reasons. (The book had some things that were too over the top for me.) Also, I'm pretty sure I've already forgotten most of the details because, well, the visuals overwrote everything in my memory. Such nice visuals... ;)

I'm going to take my time to go through the posts. I'm looking forward to find some new reading material as well! (And hopefully get in the mood to write for Weilan again.)

Thank you for the nice welcome. <3
