Welcome to SID Guardian!

A banner for the SID_Guardian comm on Dreamwidth

Hi, and welcome to SID Guardian!

[community profile] sid_guardian is a noticeboard/community for:

  • linking Guardian fanworks of all kinds

  • linking to Guardian-related news (incl. info about the actors and their other roles) and meta (incl. serious meta, squee, picspams, episode reactions, writing-meta)

  • making Guardian recs, and

  • making fanworks-finder/rec-finder posts.

  • ETA: You can also post content directly to the comm.

Which is to say, it's for letting Guardian fans find each other on Dreamwidth. :)

Please link your Guardian-related posts here! Whether novel or drama, this is the place for it. Don't be shy, and please encourage other Guardian posters to link as well. You can also link to/rec things that have been posted by others.

As the comm develops, we hope to introduce social, discussion and/or prompt posts, but given it's December, we thought we'd start small and manageable.

To kick things off, if you feel like it, tell us a bit about how you ended up in Guardian fandom! Or let us know your favourite character or scene from Guardian, or what your power would be if you were Dixingren.

And remember, there's no tension that can’t be relieved with a lollipop. And if there is, try two lollipops.

Hiya! Another months-long lurker deciding to jump in by making an account. It's been years since I've blogged at all, but I'm slowly trying to get back into writing by starting over on a different platform.

While I've studied Chinese in university and have worked in China for a year (pre-pandemic), I didn't find my gateway into Chinese media until last summer. A Youtuber I follow and Netflix had recommended me The Untamed, which officially opened the Cdrama portal for me and got me active again on Tumblr. And among the deluge of CQL/MDZS posts on my dashboard I first heard of Guardian. After a bit of digging, I started Guardian last August on Viki. Then around episode 25, I took a break from the drama to read the novel, finished it, loved the happy ending, and returned to the drama. I wouldn't recommend what I did to my worst enemy... because the drama's ending left me inconsolable for WEEKS ("Flying Through Time" still makes me weep on a good day).

I love both the drama and the novel, and there are too many wonderful moments in both to express my love for. But Shen Wei taking care of Zhao Yunlan when he had gastritis marked the point I was sold on the story and the romance. (The taxi scene was so beautiful that I cried the first time I watched it.)

There are no words for Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong that haven't been said by the fandom because they are all true. I became a fan of Z1L from the first scene, and BY stole my heart with episode 13's mind-control fakeout. They have the best on-screen mutual chemistry I've ever seen, and Weilan will live rent-free in my heart for many years thanks to them.

Though I'm just making myself known to the fandom now, I'm grateful for all the fanfics, podfics, metaposts, fan theories, and creative content found here, on Tumblr, on AO3, and beyond. They've helped me process my many thoughts and feelings. I'm tempted to write my own post-drama-canon-happily-ever-after fic, but I have a bad habit of not finishing what I start, and I'd hate to deprive this fandom of an unfinished story. TT_TT

Anywho, thank you again for this community, and I hope to meet new people here. ^_^

Welcome! :-)

Oh no, that does sound like the most traumatic approach you could have taken! I love the drama ending, with all its epic, meaningful tragedy and romance, but it did make me sob and sob!! (I haven't read the novel.)

Do it!! There can never be too many happily-ever-after fics, finished or not, and who knows -- you might surprise yourself! *\o/*

Thanks for the warm welcome! :D

Haha, true! Though I tend to write long fics only to burn out hard, and the two I have on AO3 have been screaming at me to finish them for a really long time. orz

My Guardian post-canon fic idea is projected to look like a long one based on the six page document of notes I've made over the past five months. Lots of world building, a dab of retconning, and probably a bit too much ambition for my own good (especially with "Ye Zun" and "character development" in the same sentence). But since I have an itch that hasn't been 100% cured, I might gain the confidence to write that fic someday. ^_^'
