Guardian art retrospective: the first three-ish months

Sooo I went to update my art masterlist today and noticed just how much Guardian art I've been doing. It's crazy, I've never been that productive in a fandom (I tend to have brief love affairs and do art there and then move on, except for some fandoms that stuck like Due South for instance), except maybe for Tolkien (2014ish). So I decided to put an overview into this comm (clickable previews!) for new members and also for myself. For the people who've already seen this, I didn't include the line art sketches which I sometimes posted separately before colouring. Doing this also reminded me that I still want to colour the student!Yunlan art on the couch. :-) ( art table )

Officially launching in June, we wanted to announce that the brush_and_lantern  is now welcoming anyone curious to stop by and subscribe.

 

With the 520 exchange coming up, May is already a month of creativity, excitement and a bounty of fanworks to look forward to.

 

Starting in June, the brush_and_lantern  will be posting monthly themes to keep that creative high going.

 

The comm will be a low-stress way to support others and be supported in making new fanworks. We want to keep you company while you create your long WIP, inspire you if you’re out of ideas, and pimp your work.

 

The structure is simple, with three main posts per month: a monthly theme announcement post, a mid-month party post, and a round-up post. No sign-ups required; you can join in for any part of the comm or just lurk!

 

We'll be back here when it's time for the launch, but in the meantime you can already leave a beta request or contact a mod about any questions the FAQ doesn't answer.

Rabbit Hole that is this show/novel...

Hi, I'm new here all thanks to bonibaru. Anyway, I posted a version of the below to my f-list earlier and thought I should share it here. Its mostly just squeeing and comparing the series to the novel.

So, I've basically disappeared down the rabbit hole that is Guardian in the last week. I started watching the show Sunday last week, finished it around Thursday night, had a bit of a crisis over it on twitter and I went back to the source material and for the first time in a looooong time, I read a Chinese novel.

( Are spoiler cuts required at this point? Anyway, I'll be spoiling the show AND the novel, so just to be on the safe side...also a bit of critique on the drama )
