Summary: The message had been in an archaic form of Mandarin; it had talked about a source of power from the stars, among other things, which had everyone excited, but the gate was inaccessible – their MALP had been destroyed before it could pass through the event horizon. But the message had been clear – only an "underground person" possessed of black – dark? – energy would be able to pass through the gate.
This is my Outsider POV/Stargate SG-1 crossover I wrote over the weekend. I think the two canons go actually quite amazingly well together (wormholes! aliens! time travel!) and I had just so much fun writing it. No real Stargate knowledge is required and it's set in a nebulous post-canon Guardian world where *handwave* everyone is fine.
