Guardian fandom friending meme!!!
Our lovely fandom continues to grow beyond our wildest expectations! Comm membership has just hit 100 98 (and we got impatient)! *shameless champagne and ballooooons*
A few small notes and reminders:
And now, without further ado...
Since some of us are new to Dreamwidth, and some of us are new to Guardian, it seems like a good time for a Dreamwidth friending meme. Come and meet new people! (Re)Populate your DW circle!
To participate, just copy the text below, paste it into a new comment and tell us about yourself. (All information is optional.) Then read through other people's comments and say hi / follow them as desired.
(Many thanks to
teaotter for prettifying the banner pic! <3)
A few small notes and reminders:
- The Welcome/Intro post and the Fannish Resources post are still alive and kicking. Feel free to drop in at any time and say hi, or give us all your resource links (even the ones that might seem really obvious)!
- Lurking is also totally fine, of course! *waves to lurkers*
- Please tag your posts to the comm so other users can easily find what they’re looking for. In particular, it would be great if you could use the canon: drama and/or canon: novel tags, since it’s not always obvious to us mods which should apply, including for fanart or vids that use drama visuals but draw on novel elements. This is our current list of tags, and we’ll add more type tags as the need arises.
- You can find the full (updated) comm rules on the profile page.
- Feel free to promote
sid_guardian on your journal or elsewhere. (Here's a graphic and text.)

DW username:
Languages: English, very bad Spanish, even worse Chinese, vague memories of some Latin root words
Offline location: The US of Aaaaaay wait a minute what just happened here??
Other online locations:
I like: Gen, slash, and I love me some classic trope use
Guardian-specific stuff
Drama, novel or both? I know a lot more about the drama than the novel, but I'm following along as RainbowSe7en translates, so I'll get there eventually
Fannish about canon, actors, related shows, RPF or some combination of these? Almost exclusively fannish about canon, but I have been known to periodically make despairing noises about the actors as well
How long have you been in the fandom? Since
Where can we find your fanworks, if any: All AO3 all the time, baby! (Well, and since my DW was imported from my LJ there are some extremely ancient fics there that haven't made it to AO3 yet. If you're a fan of old-school SG-1 stuff you might find some old friends.)
Other points of interest regarding your Guardian fannishness: I find it disturbingly easy to get into Shen Wei's headspace when I write, but Zhao Yunlan requires a little more work. Maybe in my heart of hearts I'm just an angsty fixated semi-immortal over-powered overly-responsible arbiter of justice? We can go with that.
Posting habits
How long have you been on Dreamwidth? Where were you before that? I imported my fic-specific LJ over here a few years ago but only started using the site as more than an archive during the tumblr strike, when I started to see that there was a lovely Guardian community building. I still lurk more than I post, but I'm working on it. As far as pre-DW goes, I was on LJ from about 2002 until the Russian Invasion, and before that I had a GeoCities page and my fic hosted on a constellation of privately-run archives and webrings, and concurrently with that I do in fact currently have three actualfacts printed out hardcopy fanzines on my bookshelf right now with my fic in them. Before that there may exist a self-insert Star Wars story written in pencil on awesome purple lined paper circa the early nineties but no one can prove it.
What do you post about: I don't post much - I'll be updating some of the archival fic stuff as I go, but being on tumblr really got me out of the habit of posting personal things, which I used to be quite consistent about in the old LJ days. I need to relearn the habit, I guess.
Your other fandoms include: Guardian is my main one at the moment - before that were Supernatural and Avengers, mostly, but I've kind of drifted out of those fandoms. I'm also fond of wandering into small fandoms, hanging around for a fic or so, and then vanishing mysteriously into the night.
Post frequency: ...Slow. :| But maybe I'll get faster?
Access policy: I'm basically subscribing right back at everybody, at this point!
Anything else we should know about you? I'm a children's librarian, absolutely feel free to ask me questions if you have any!

insert Guardian pic/gif/novel quote/thought/link of your choice here!
Shen Wei's outfit here is just... very good for me.

I've added you. We can both work on getting into the swing of posting more often!

Argh, picture why?? It's not letting me edit the original post any more, so I'll see if I can stick it in here somewhere. *cracks knuckles* I have forgotten so much html since the LJ days...
(AHA before I think I was using the thumbnail html, not the full picture html... thank you for coming with me on this html journey)

LOL! I totally don't have a box of A5 school recycling paper notebooks with my first Star Trek story in the basement.

FASCINATING. I am the exact opposite? I have two fics I wrote in about the same amount of time - the Shen Wei POV one is 5k, the Zhao Yunlan POV is 10k. So fair to say it's about twice as difficult for me to write Shen Wei as Zhao Yunlan.
Also your fic is SO GOOD and I am looking forward to more! (We should do Sunday Six on Dreamwidth! And I don't just say that because I'm hoping for more snippets from WIPs. ...though I don't have any WIP to share other than the really long one...)

I think writing Shen Wei is easier for me because I already tend to gravitate towards characters who share some of Shen Wei's strongest traits (past lookalikes include Tim Drake from the DCU, Castiel from Supernatural, Remus Lupin from Harry Potter, etc etc) so I already have a lot of the mental groundwork laid. I still really enjoy writing Zhao Yunlan - especially in dialogue! - but sometimes I have to sit down and go, "Okay, before I write this scene I am going to need to spend a few minutes Thinking Like Zhao Yunlan and then I will be ready to go," whereas Shen Wei is just sort of already there. In terms of fictional characters, I definitely have a type. :D
Thank you so much for saying nice things about my fic - and we should totally do Sunday Six on DW!!! !! I am not even kidding when I say that the nice things people have said about my snippets on tumblr have made me write at least 6x faster. And it's so much fun to see what everyone else is up to! Whoever came up with Sunday Six deserves a dessert item of their choice.

In Supernatural, Destiel became my OTP pretty much from the moment Castiel appeared in the show.

Well met, fellow fannish veteran! ;-) Ah, the days of Geocities, webrings, and dial-up connections. Remember when most fanfic pages forced you to find the second comma in the third row for the link to the stories...?
I'm also fond of wandering into small fandoms, hanging around for a fic or so, and then vanishing mysteriously into the night.
Heee! I've been known to do that, as well. :-)
Also: Shen Wei in formal clothes is just. Yes. Zhao Yunlan agrees, I'm pretty sure.

Ever since I wrote this post I've been trying to remember the name of my old site so I could try and find it in Wayback, and I haven't been able to at all. Man I wish I'd written it down somewhere!
