Guardian fandom friending meme!!!
Our lovely fandom continues to grow beyond our wildest expectations! Comm membership has just hit 100 98 (and we got impatient)! *shameless champagne and ballooooons*
A few small notes and reminders:
And now, without further ado...
Since some of us are new to Dreamwidth, and some of us are new to Guardian, it seems like a good time for a Dreamwidth friending meme. Come and meet new people! (Re)Populate your DW circle!
To participate, just copy the text below, paste it into a new comment and tell us about yourself. (All information is optional.) Then read through other people's comments and say hi / follow them as desired.
(Many thanks to
teaotter for prettifying the banner pic! <3)
A few small notes and reminders:
- The Welcome/Intro post and the Fannish Resources post are still alive and kicking. Feel free to drop in at any time and say hi, or give us all your resource links (even the ones that might seem really obvious)!
- Lurking is also totally fine, of course! *waves to lurkers*
- Please tag your posts to the comm so other users can easily find what they’re looking for. In particular, it would be great if you could use the canon: drama and/or canon: novel tags, since it’s not always obvious to us mods which should apply, including for fanart or vids that use drama visuals but draw on novel elements. This is our current list of tags, and we’ll add more type tags as the need arises.
- You can find the full (updated) comm rules on the profile page.
- Feel free to promote
sid_guardian on your journal or elsewhere. (Here's a graphic and text.)

I like: Mostly slash, some relationship- or character-focussed gen, het in certain fandoms. I am an OTP-er and love both plot and romance in my stories, and am happiest if there is a generous helping of both, but I also happily read crack, PWPs and many other things. ;-)
Guardian-specific stuff
Drama, novel or both? Drama! The characters and their relationship work better for me there, and in my view, the drama is entirely capable of standing on its own. I don’t think the canons can, should or need to be compared or reconciled in any way.
Fannish about canon, actors, related shows, RPF or some combination of these? Just drama canon (and related meta, and fanfic, and…)
How long have you been in the fandom? A bit over half a year now. Time flies…
Where can we find your fanworks, if any: My fanfic is available on AO3
Other points of interest regarding your Guardian fannishness: I honestly thought my fannish flames had cooled before I found Guardian. It is so wonderful! The characters, the relationship – it just. Yes.
Right now, I am trying hard not to buy a replica of Shen Wei’s necklace, but it is hard, you guys.
Posting habits
How long have you been on Dreamwidth? Where were you before that? I've been here since DW was founded, because I am a fannish dinosaur. Before DW, I was on LiveJournal, and before *that* I was on email mailing lists, had a Geocities page for fanfic and listed MB size with every story link. (I was even on an email fanfic archive that sent out fanfic once a week, chopped up into email-sized portions. Long fanfics took weeks to be sent out. Sometimes we also chiselled fanfic into stone tablets.)
What do you post about: Mostly fannish things - meta, some fanfic (though not as much as I would like), some general squee. At the moment, I am almost exclusively Guardian-oriented. I do sometimes post about non-fannish things, though, partly in an attempt not to seem entirely obsessive. ;-)
Your other fandoms include: Oh wow, so many! I started my online fannishness in X-Files (Mulder/Krycek), expanded to Highlander, Once a Thief, Due South, Eroica, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Tokyo Babylon / X 1999, Saiyuki, Farscape, Supernatural, Smallville, X-Men, Winter Soldier… do you really want me to go on? ;-)
Post frequency: Sporadic, because I don’t always have as much time as I would like, but I am trying hard to get back into the habit of posting regularly. I love that DW is so lively again these days!
Access policy: I hardly ever friendslock anything, and everyone is welcome to friend me at will (I appreciate a note, but it’s not required).
Anything else we should know about you? I am friendly and would love to squee and talk about Guardian with you. Also, please note that it might be a little while before I get back to you on this meme, because I am already *way* past my bed-time. But I would love to hear from you!

Just because of the intimacy of the moment... this is so not a bromance. :-)

and that necklace is... terribly tempting omg. (i've definitely spent $$ on worse merch in my life. most recent was a purchase of two wine bottles by the smallville actors who played clark and lex. their pictures are on the labels; it's the cheesiest thing in the WORLD.)

Me neither!!! It makes me feel young again to be so excited about a fandom. And I am even writing fanfic again, which I also thought I would never do again! It is the best kind of revival. :-)
Your wine bottles made me giggle, because I do understand - fannishness makes us do cheesy things sometimes, but it's out of the pure fannish love in our hearts, so it's okay. :-)
I am usually pretty resistant to merchandise, and only weakened once before when it came to Dean's necklace from "Supernatural". Maybe necklaces are my particular weak spot...

...you know, that really does sum up the feeling of sitting with a dial-up modem hoping that the rest of the words you were hoping to read would load.

sitting with a dial-up modem hoping that the rest of the words you were hoping to read would load.
I am glad I am not the only one who still remembers!! There was one particular story that was posted in large installments, and my connection was slooow, so I read faster than the story loaded and it was *torture*.

I love that Guardian is drawing so many old fans back in!

(Plus I just realized that the one time I weakened before was also a necklace, so maybe I am just weak to necklaces in particular...)

And here I thought it wasn't that well known of an anime/manga
ah the old internet days... the gb of stuff I downloaded with my dial up modem...
PS: so you are the one who started it all... nice to meet you and thank you :) Solo is still grinning like Cheshire Cat at her accomplishment.

YES! I still remember the agony of waiting for a new fic installment to load because my modem was slower than my reading speed. ;-) It really did feel like we were inbscribing it into stone at times... (also, remember webrings??)
so you are the one who started it all...
Hee, yes, I will gladly take the blame, and believe me, I am grinning just as broadly (or possible more so *g*). This fandom is so contagious that I have had more success in suborning innocent fans than I could ever have dreamed of. :-) I am very glad to meet you, too!

(I'm also currently attempting to resist the pull of that necklace. /o\)

The intimacy of this scene - how comfortable they are with each other - tends to make me think that they are together at this point... even though it does seem very early in some other respects. Either way, there is such easy affection here, and both of them so clearly can't imagine not spending the evening together. <3

The one goss found? Omg yes. Honestly, I never thought I'd fall for any kind of Guardian merchandise, because so far it's all been plushie dolls and chibi drawings and weird photobooks.
But this? Argh. I love it. I would so wear it.
