Our lovely fandom continues to grow beyond our wildest expectations! Comm membership has just hit 100 98 (and we got impatient)! *shameless champagne and ballooooons*

A few small notes and reminders:

1. The Welcome/Intro post and the Fannish Resources post are still alive and kicking. Feel free to drop in at any time and say hi, or give us all your resource links (even the ones that might seem really obvious)!


2. Lurking is also totally fine, of course! *waves to lurkers*


3. Please tag your posts to the comm so other users can easily find what they’re looking for. In particular, it would be great if you could use the canon: drama and/or canon: novel tags, since it’s not always obvious to us mods which should apply, including for fanart or vids that use drama visuals but draw on novel elements. You've got me wondering how he ends up in the Time-Engraver's lab now, darn it. *sulks* Hallows fuckery? Or something else completely in a world where Dixing's not a thing? Gah, idk. :(

I was thinking of it as a fantasy AU where Dixing isn't a thing, yeah. So Shen Wei is the Time Engraver, instead of the Black-Cloaked Envoy. And ZYL is still an ordinary human.

Hm, okay. So, something like ZYL and the SID still investigate the weird crimes ordinary police can't, only it's magic instead of Dixing. And someone/something is sucking the life out of people kind of like Wang Yike, only not her because that girl deserves better, and ZYL stumbles across SW's lab while he's trying to solve the case. And for some reason I'm feeling like SW is something along the lines of Discworld's ANTHROPOMORPHIC PERSONIFICATIONS with general time manipulation powers as opposed to erasing wrinkles omg l'oreal.

(Also, maybe he has Li Qian for an assistant? Or something? >.>)

Yes! ZYL should definitely still be an investigator/detective of some kind. I'm really loving this idea.

And for some reason I'm feeling like SW is something along the lines of Discworld's ANTHROPOMORPHIC PERSONIFICATIONS with general time manipulation powers as opposed to erasing wrinkles omg l'oreal.

LOL! I mean, he is in essence an anthropomorphic personification of time itself in the commercial? Putting wrinkles on people and all. (Until L'Oreal thwarts him, or something.) But yeah, the whole judgmental "O NOES WRINKLES!!!!!!" thing absolutely needs to go. Ugh, L'Oreal.

Also, YES on including Li Qian as his assistant!

And yet here in the UK L'Oreal's running ads - at least in the papers - about how they're ~promoting self-worth instead of self-doubt~ and my eyes almost rolled out my head when I saw that, I swear.

Hm, maybe Li Qian has Quicksilver-esque powers? So, similar to SW but different enough.

Ugh, that's some hypocrisy there.

For Justice, then: the villain should be some anti-aging cosmetic that says it'll ~defeat time~, but in reality it works like the miracle doctor on Guardian - with people rapidly aging and all. *grumbles*

Hmm, Li Qian is a scientist first, so would some mental power work better?

Hm, that's true. Something like telekinesis then? Or something else?

Hmmm. Li Qian could be stuck with Shen Wei the way Albert is stuck with Death in Discworld, so she'd still be a normal human being. I guess it depends on what kind of powers there are in this 'verse? But telekinesis would work.

(Damn, why hasn't someone written me a 100k epic about this yet?!)

That works too! Maybe a combination of Albert and Mort. She's still stuck there but she gets to learn cool stuff - and occasionally give SW a gentle kick in the rear end because he's Thinking Too Much - so it's okay. (And also, if there's some version of the History Monks, they probably both get irritated by all these people running around and meddling with time. Amateurs)

And Li Qian's mortal, there's nothing in the Rules that says one mortal can't throw a spanner in the works of a mortal organisation. *innocent eyes* Also, do they really count as a mortal organisation? Do they really? Some of them are hundreds of years old, Professor!

And Shen Wei wants to say yes! He wants to so, so badly because the History Monks are meddling with everything, but he has to be responsible and say no. Sadly.

And then he has to fight temptation, because Zhao Yunlan is mortal, and unlike Li Qian he would never be content to stay in the lab where time doesn't touch them. There has to be another way. And so on.

(Question. Is Ye Zun around somewhere? Causing havoc or not, as the case may be.)

YES! Shen Wei putting duty first! Zhao Yunlan not putting up with the restrictions of their situation! I love all of that. ♥

Hmmm. Ye Zun would fit in very well - Time the Devourer, in contrast to Shen Wei as the Time Engraver?

And if we want that part of canon, they got separated when they were young, and he blamed Shen Wei and went out of control, and had to be imprisoned.

And Ye Zun being the eventual source of the life-sucking cosmetic, perhaps?

Yes, of course! Because of course he's trying to break free.

(For full drama parallel, Shen Wei would have to sacrifice himself to stop him in the end. And I can't decide if I want to go full parallel, or make a happy ending. Maybe sacrifice plus happy ending? Where they die, but because time can't die, the twins are brought back to life shortly after? Before Zhao Yunlan can do something stupid out of grief?)

Oh, or! Li Qian still uses something like the Dial to barter for her nan's life after the stroke and that's how she ends up working with Shen Wei?
