Guardian fandom friending meme!!!
Our lovely fandom continues to grow beyond our wildest expectations! Comm membership has just hit 100 98 (and we got impatient)! *shameless champagne and ballooooons*
A few small notes and reminders:
And now, without further ado...
Since some of us are new to Dreamwidth, and some of us are new to Guardian, it seems like a good time for a Dreamwidth friending meme. Come and meet new people! (Re)Populate your DW circle!
To participate, just copy the text below, paste it into a new comment and tell us about yourself. (All information is optional.) Then read through other people's comments and say hi / follow them as desired.
(Many thanks to
teaotter for prettifying the banner pic! <3)
A few small notes and reminders:
- The Welcome/Intro post and the Fannish Resources post are still alive and kicking. Feel free to drop in at any time and say hi, or give us all your resource links (even the ones that might seem really obvious)!
- Lurking is also totally fine, of course! *waves to lurkers*
- Please tag your posts to the comm so other users can easily find what they’re looking for. In particular, it would be great if you could use the canon: drama and/or canon: novel tags, since it’s not always obvious to us mods which should apply, including for fanart or vids that use drama visuals but draw on novel elements. This is our current list of tags, and we’ll add more type tags as the need arises.
- You can find the full (updated) comm rules on the profile page.
- Feel free to promote
sid_guardian on your journal or elsewhere. (Here's a graphic and text.)

DW username:
Languages: English, Spoken Chinese (my literacy skills lag pretty far behind)
Offline location: Massachusetts, USA
Other online locations:
- AO3:
- Tumblr:
- Discord: Qik#1337 on the Guardian discord, the Nirvana in Fire discord, and other fannish discords.
I like: Any pairing (m/m, m/f, or f/f) that hits the tropes I love, mostly loyalty kink + pining, friends-to-lovers (and its variant: oblivious idiots-to-lovers), and enemies-to-friends-to-lovers.
Guardian-specific stuff
Drama, novel or both? Drama. I enjoy reading the novel, and like a lot of the little background details in the novel such as Zhao Yunlan's kink for Shen Wei's long hair. But for the most part, I am into the drama iteration of their characterization and relationship dynamics.
Fannish about canon, actors, related shows, RPF or some combination of these? Very fannish about the canon and the actors, especially Bai Yu and his trollish memelord self. I do read/write Guardian RPF, but that sphere of my fannish life is primarily on the Chinese side where there is much higher activity.
How long have you been in the fandom? Since last summer when it was airing!
Where can we find your fanworks, if any: All my fic is on AO3 at
Other points of interest regarding your Guardian fannishness: I lurk but don't post on Weibo and Lofter, which is where I get a ton of content for the actors, fanart, and for Guardian-related merchandise. I've recently fallen into the giant money-spending pit of adorable Guardian plushies on Taobao.
Posting habits
How long have you been on Dreamwidth? Where were you before that? I've had this account for a long time, as a back-up when I was on LJ, but only recently started using the journal. I have very few friends and would love to find more people to add!
What do you post about: Mostly fannish posts, like fic recs, my own ramblings about writing, fandom recs, book recs, etc.
Your other fandoms include: Nirvana in Fire, C-Novels (esp. MXTX ones like Mo Dao Zu Shi, Scum Villain), Podcasts (Critical Role, Magnus Archives, Strange Case of Starship Iris). Older fandoms I'm no longer active in include: Tolkien, XMFC, Cabin Pressure, Sherlock Holmes (just about all iterations, including the one with dinosaurs), Elisabeth.
Post frequency: Random, depending on what catches my attention. In general, I am a more active commenter than I am a poster.
Access policy: I don't f-lock anything, so I'm pretty sloppy about granting access.
Anything else we should know about you? I've been playing and DMing for Dungeons & Dragon 5e for almost a year now, and it's been a complete blast. If someone wants to come scream at me about Dixing as the Underdark, I'm your gal. :D
Random Guardian
This is my favourite Shen Wei expression (shy smile + ducking his head), and every time he does it, my heart breaks into a million little pieces.
And it just blows my mind that the steely Professor Shen is played by an actor who also does things like this:

I love all of these!!
The contrast between these two gifs is... really something. *g*
Older fandoms I'm no longer active in include: Tolkien, XMFC, Cabin Pressure
AHA! I assume your user name is a reference to Cabin Pressure, not a strange coincidence? >_>

zhu yilong is an enigma wrapped in a mystery hiding its little introvert hands in its sleeves, and i ADORE HIM omg.

And yess, that is such an excellent description of zhu yilong! I love it.

And honestly, I'm so into how quickly he can change in/out of character. Like, you can tell even in the same costume, that it's Ye Zun and not Shen Wei.

So very hard same I think you can hear the tinkling bits of what's left of my heart right now after being subjected to that gif...

And yes, that dancing gif it was just a day ruiner (work productivity-wise. My fannish self was squeeing very loudly)

This is where I live, mostly, as well as straightforward enemies-to-lovers. Friends-to-lovers is much rarer for me, but then something like Guardian comes along and hits me hard ...

Re Cabin Pressure, I had suspected that your user name was a reference but so far I hadn't been sure. ;-)

playing and DMing for Dungeons & Dragon 5e
I played some D&D 4th ed some years back, but have since been gaming in different systems - and I'm, afraid I am not knowledgable about the Underdark. But now you do have me thinking about how much fun this world would be as an RPG setting... you even have different classes and races built in!
no subject
And I've been playing back and forth with the idea of Guardian as a TTRPG, but could never pin down everyone's classes other than I think Shen Wei being a wizard (with his high intellect and learning abilities) and Ye Zun being a sorcerer (wild, out of control innate magic). It's fun to consider some of the settings for the show, though, like transposing mind flayers and beholders into Dixing as hazards of the "wilderness."
