Guardian fandom friending meme!!!

Our lovely fandom continues to grow beyond our wildest expectations! Comm membership has just hit 100 98 (and we got impatient)! *shameless champagne and ballooooons*

A few small notes and reminders:

  1. The Welcome/Intro post and the Fannish Resources post are still alive and kicking. Feel free to drop in at any time and say hi, or give us all your resource links (even the ones that might seem really obvious)!

  2. Lurking is also totally fine, of course! *waves to lurkers*

  3. Please tag your posts to the comm so other users can easily find what they’re looking for. In particular, it would be great if you could use the canon: drama and/or canon: novel tags, since it’s not always obvious to us mods which should apply, including for fanart or vids that use drama visuals but draw on novel elements. This is our current list of tags, and we’ll add more type tags as the need arises.

  4. You can find the full (updated) comm rules on the profile page.

  5. Feel free to promote [community profile] sid_guardian on your journal or elsewhere. (Here's a graphic and text.)

And now, without further ado...

The SID team smiling at each other, with a banner reading "Guardian Friending Meme".

Since some of us are new to Dreamwidth, and some of us are new to Guardian, it seems like a good time for a Dreamwidth friending meme. Come and meet new people! (Re)Populate your DW circle!

To participate, just copy the text below, paste it into a new comment and tell us about yourself. (All information is optional.) Then read through other people's comments and say hi / follow them as desired.

About You
DW username: [personal profile] asya_ana
Languages: English. My strongest secondary reading language is Spanish, and my strongest secondary speaking language is Chinese (Mandarin).
I like: slash

Guardian-specific stuff
Drama, novel or both?: Drama, but I anticipate reading the novel at some point
Fannish about canon, actors, related shows, RPF or some combination of these? Canon, and I’m open to AUs as well. I love Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong kind of a lot. I haven’t watched their other projects, but I enjoy looking at gifs and clips and watching their dorky interviews.
How long have you been in the fandom? Maybe late-January of this year? It happened fast! It was swift and brutal and totally took me by storm after not feeling very fannish for almost 3 years. I knew I’d always be “in fandom,” but I really thought I’d never have “a fandom” again. This show totally made me eat my words.
Other points of interest regarding your Guardian fannishness: I love Zhao Yunlan’s keen intelligence and sass, as well as his marshmallow heart, and I adore Shen Wei’s 德 (“de”) or high virtuousness. I think the show was beautiful in its commitment of where it allowed their characters and their relationship to go, and it continually exceeded my expectations of where that would be, several times over. I love the SID and the found familyness of them. There is a lot of beauty and hopefulness in this show, and I find it both sweetly affirming and also profound at the same time.

Posting habits
How long have you been on Dreamwidth? Where were you before that?: I’ve had a DW since 2012 and was on LJ before that, in 2011, and Tumblr a little bit earlier. I’ve been most consistently active on Twitter since 2011. I mainly treated DW as a mirror until the most recent LJ scandal, which made me abandon that platform. Even after that point, I posted infrequently to DW until Guardian happened.
What do you post about: I post almost exclusively about fandom and almost never about RL. I occasionally post stuff that’s in neither of those bins, such as other TV or books I’m reading, and the occasional recipe.
Your other fandoms include: I’m pretty monofannish, and I usually remain active in one fandom for 1-4 years, without entirely leaving the others behind. I think I can accommodate this level of intensity of feelings for only one thing at a time. My fandom history has been Merlin, Teen Wolf, Inception, Eagle, and XMFC, consecutively in that order. I consider Merlin my forever home, and I find there’s a lot of overlap between Merlin and Guardian, which may be why I got sucked in so fast. During the years between Guardian and my last fandom, I mostly read original m/m romance. KJ Charles, Harper Fox, Roan Parrish are some faves, and my heart was a little broken when the person-who-shall-not-be-named catfishing revelation broke.
Post frequency: Inconsistent. Basically, whenever I have something to say and the time to say it.
Access policy: I tend to post under lock, but I’ll friend almost anyone of age.

Anything else we should know about you? Fandom old! I love fanworks a lot, whether they be fic, gifs, fanvids, art, etc. I think of fandom as a gift community that we are all creating and sharing together, and I’d love to help build that community with you all <3

So many moments it’s difficult to conjure them all, but I sometimes think about when Zhao Yunlan tells Shen Wei with a trace of admiration mixed with sadness, that wherever he goes he’s always the shining one. Something about that breaks my heart every time.

oh god, that quote about ZYL saying SW is always the shining one just kills me. And your summary of what you love about the show is spot on.

It reminds me a bit of Merlin in that respect too--both shows can be a bit goofy and silly, but also lots of hopeful, funny, and positive moments. I can see some of Arthur in Shen Wei, too, with both of them being very noble and self-sacrificing.

Yes, exactly. I seem to be a sucker for a show that is low budget and ridiculous to other people, but also makes me exceedingly happy and cheerful. It's almost like the 2 are linked? Like these shows are so sweet and endearing, and they try so hard, and I just need to take care of them. LOL

NICE CHOICE OF PICS, FRIEND. *stares forever*

(re: the person who shall not be named scandal in romancelandia - i hear you! read a bunch of their stuff in the years prior; even included them on rec lists. i wasn't online much when the reveal happened so i found out kind of late, and wow, it was SO disappointing and ugly.)

have you read anything by jordan l. hawk? i like a lot of their work.

Yes. Yes. Those pics. I mean, you are partly to blame...

I read Widdershins and really enjoyed it. Curiously given my fandoms, I've been mostly hungry for contemporary non-SFF novels. Very odd! But when I get into something, I really get into it (cough, I mean, you've seen this in action), and I know that someday I will want All the m/m SFF stuff, so I don't mind putting that sub-genre on hold until the fever hits!

I was SO distressed about the-person. I was a huge fan. I loved their stuff to pieces. It was so real. (Because in some deeply disturbing ways -- it was??) I was there for the speculation heading into certainty and watched the whole thing unfold in slow motion. NGL it put me in a bad place -- I don't think I read a single m/m novel for several, several months, and I never totally went back? Bad bad bad.

widdershins is their most popular series i think, but i also really enjoy SPECTR - it's contemporary/slightly futuristic setting with really interesting worldbuilding and a pretty novel idea of vampires. BUT if you're not interested in any sff, have you tried anything by alexis hall? "for real" is my favorite of his, and while he has written some sff, he has contemporary non-sff stuff too. anyway, if any of these sound whatsoever interesting, lmk and i can lend you any of them via ama*zon. :)

(ughhhh, that's awful. i'm so very sorry, bb - that was a truly fucked up experience for the fandom. <3333)

HNNNNG YES

I love For Real. Definitely one of my top faves. Should have mentioned that one before! We need to be GR friends, methinks. I'll hit you up on Twitter when I remember my username. LOL

W-why would you post THAT PICTURE ASYA. WHy.

I think the show was beautiful in its commitment of where it allowed their characters and their relationship to go, and it continually exceeded my expectations of where that would be, several times over.

This is such a wonderful, wonderful way of putting it. This show is a gift from everyone involved in making it, and I will be forever grateful. ♥

We are so lucky with this little show, aren't we? *cuddles it and you*

KJ Charles is AMAZING. I most loved the Society of Gentlemen series. It honestly had everything I could ever want.

Hello friend! Oh, we got into Guardian around the same time. I binged the whole series over the course of two weeks in late January/early February.

I also love Zhao Yunlan's sassiness and intelligence. And that he's so flirty with Shen Wei and that he's so obvious about it, lmao. The rest of his team was even side-eyeing him for it.

And yes, Shen Wei's dedication to doing what's right and maintaining the peace.

You watched very fast! I only just finished a few days ago. (But in general I am a slow consumer. This was lightning fast for me.) ZYL is the most irredeemable flirt. It's the best. <3 Glad you're on here!

When I get hyperfixated on something, I really binge on it. And things like Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube, where there's an autoplay feature, just make it way too easy for me to "do one more episode".

Adding you!
