Guardian fandom friending meme!!!

Our lovely fandom continues to grow beyond our wildest expectations! Comm membership has just hit 100 98 (and we got impatient)! *shameless champagne and ballooooons*

A few small notes and reminders:

1. The Welcome/Intro post and the Fannish Resources post are still alive and kicking. Feel free to drop in at any time and say hi, or give us all your resource links (even the ones that might seem really obvious)!


2. Lurking is also totally fine, of course! *waves to lurkers*


3. Please tag your posts to the comm so other users can easily find what they’re looking for. In particular, it would be great if you could use the canon: drama and/or canon: novel tags, since it’s not always obvious to us mods which should apply, including for fanart or vids that use drama visuals but draw on novel elements. This is our current list of tags, and we’ll add more type tags as the need arises.

I've started Xiao Shi Yi Lang to see more of him QQ.

I've started that too! But I haven't come very far because there are not enough hours in a day, alas. I assume you've seen sakana17's posts? I so want to get back to watching ...

I CANNOT get over this deleted scene.

I love pimp cane!Ye Zun a lot, and that scene is excellent (and excellently creepy), but I'm still glad they cut it because that way, Jiajia remains alive.

I have not seen those posts and thank you profusely for linking me, aaa what HQ photos!! I've been watching on Prime and the quality leaves.. much to be desired.

I also haven't gotten far, more due to the fact that I kind of dislike everybody except Cheng Bi and the bad guy girls lol. Hard to be invested when you don't like the main characters, whoops.

Yeah, that's true. I like Feng Sinian well enough, and don't mind Bijun so far, but Xiao Shiyilang is not fun to watch at all. Not sure if it's the actor or the writing, but to me, he's lacking any and all charisma.

I actually really XSYL's voice dub, I feel like they did a good job with making it sound natural and match his body language. And he's not bad looking either, which help. Completely agree about his character not actually being very charismatic, though.

I feel like the writing in the show is *handwaves* not very good. It's just really tropey and obvious? Maybe because I'm a Western audience and I'm not used to the genre, but the show is really kind of... bad ahahaha. I would definitely not be watching it if it weren't for Z1L. Which is why I like all the bad guys, they don't have as much focus so it's easier to think they're cool. Also their costumes/clothes are SO COOL.

I keep comparing Xiao Shiyilang to Ye Kai from Border Town Prodigal, who's a somewhat similar archetype, and he falls so very short. Ye Kai is fun and charismatic and a delight to watch, and he's the perfect counterpart to Fu Hongxue's angstfest. But Xiao Shiyilang is just ... meh all around.

(Yeah, XXSYL isn't exactly a good show! I wouldn't watch if it weren't for Zhu Yilong either.)

I haven't watched Border Town Prodigal so I don't have that comparison haha. I do generally like rogues with a heart of gold though.

(Ahhh, I love all your icons, I really need to get some guardian/guardian adjacent ones.)

(The type: icons tag here is a good start, if you're looking.

And I've only seen part of Border Town Prodigal becaus it isn't fully subbed, but I liked the episodes I did watch. Very angsty and whumpy, but Zhu Yilong is very good at it.
