Welcome to SID Guardian!

A banner for the SID_Guardian comm on Dreamwidth

Hi, and welcome to SID Guardian!

[community profile] sid_guardian is a noticeboard/community for:

  • linking Guardian fanworks of all kinds

  • linking to Guardian-related news (incl. info about the actors and their other roles) and meta (incl. serious meta, squee, picspams, episode reactions, writing-meta)

  • making Guardian recs, and

  • making fanworks-finder/rec-finder posts.

  • ETA: You can also post content directly to the comm.

Which is to say, it's for letting Guardian fans find each other on Dreamwidth. :)

Please link your Guardian-related posts here! Whether novel or drama, this is the place for it. Don't be shy, and please encourage other Guardian posters to link as well. You can also link to/rec things that have been posted by others.

As the comm develops, we hope to introduce social, discussion and/or prompt posts, but given it's December, we thought we'd start small and manageable.

To kick things off, if you feel like it, tell us a bit about how you ended up in Guardian fandom! Or let us know your favourite character or scene from Guardian, or what your power would be if you were Dixingren.

And remember, there's no tension that can’t be relieved with a lollipop. And if there is, try two lollipops.

For me, Guardian started out on a whim. Several people mentioned it on my DW friendslist, but I had no real intention of watching it. Still, when I was visiting a friend, I suggested we check it out. And now, I am hooked, she is hooked, several others have also been infected at this point... it's spreading like the flu. ;-)

Thanks to Guardian, I've started writing fanfic again - and it's been years! I really can't tell you how wonderful it is to be writing slash again, even though I do still feel rusty.

I honestly love both Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei. Still, Yunlan does have a slight edge in my heart (even though I find Shen Wei more physically attractive).

Yunlan's just so sharp and insightful and competent. He can hold his own as a human facing inhumanly powerful people - and he's also so open-minded and kind and passionate about protecting *everyone*, not just humans. I also love his flippant, irreverent, cheeky ways, and the streak of recklessness and lack of care for himself, and how none of it can conceal how much he truly *cares*.

And I admire that he became this remarkable person all by himself, without the help of a guiding hand when he was young. He became the amazing person he is despite, not because of his environment.

My Dixingian power would probably be keeping tea warm indefinitely. Or subjectively stopping time while reading a good story.

(Hi, everyone! I am a fannish slash dinosaur who started out in fandom back in 1998, when I found Mulder/Krycek X-Files slash. Since then, I have been in a myriad of fandoms from Eroica, Saiyuki, Utena and Tokyo Babylon / X1999 to X-Men, Smalville and Supernatural. I've most recently been devouring Bucky/Steve stories. And I watch kdrama - mostly romcoms!)

Hee! YAY!

This whole description gave me heart-eyes, seriously. YES!

Hai! *waves* (Ooh, speak to me of Kdramas! What are you watching? What are your favourites? Hi!)

Kdramas! It's actually been a bit tricky watching them lately because Dramafever went down, and my other usual sources have also been drying up. :-/ So I am not watching any current kdramas right now, though I have my eye on several.

My favorites, hmmm... Mawang, Dal Ja's Spring, Kim Sam Soon, Greatest Love, My Love from Another Star, Queen Inhyeon's Man, What's Up Fox, 49 Days (although I HATE the ending)... and I loved the first half of Spy Myung-Wol so much that I still mourn its rapid decline. A lot of tohers too, but those are the ones I can think of right now! :-)

What are your favorites?

I have an annotated list here, but my absolute favs are Healer, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, and Chief Kim. Currently rewatching While You Were Sleeping with one friend and Capital Scandal with another, and I've just started My Secret Terrius by myself (it's very Scarecrow and Mrs King!).

I could never get the streaming sites to work with my geolocation (and I don't trust 'em), so I either watch on Netflix or *ahem* download. (Let me know if you want details.)

I tried Greatest Love but bounced off it. But I've loved many other Hong sisters ones -- maybe I should give it another go! :-)

I just started watching Healer! I think I was watching too many other things when it first came out, but I've always wanted to try it again.

Greatest Love is my favorite Hong Sister drama, but it does take a bit of getting used to - the hero (and his facial hair choices) needs to grow on you, I find. :-)

And, yes, I would love details. :-)

I don't think I can talk about Healer -- I only have FLAIL! (It is seriously so great -- identity porn, and a fantastic romance, and saving the world through journalism, and the plot actually makes sense!!)

This site has a ton of Asian dramas available for download. It's free, but if you throw them a little bit of money, it's a lot faster and you can parallel download. They also take requests, if you're looking for something recent (but only things that have already finished). I think that's where I got Guardian, in the end, though I had to look elsewhere for subs at that stage.

they're both such good people, and how that makes for a lot of the charm of the drama

This is very definitely true for me, too. I find this particularly interesting because it's not something that I generally look for - in fact, I usually have a special weakness for complicatedly grey and dark grey characters. ;-) But in Guardian, I love that they are both such good people, and love them for it... and I think it is partly because if they weren't, they wouldn't be so right for each other.

I think mine would probably end up something useless, like poor Zhu Jiu's light-based teleportation in Dixing.

Tsk, every power is useful in the right context! You just haven't found the right context yet. ;-) After all, Zhu Jiu was extremely effective in Haixing, and even that one nameless guy's power to harden his crotch came in very handy. (I laughed so hard when his friend commented on that - hey, your stupid power actually came in useful! It's such a lovely detail. *g*)

And I am so proud of myself! :-) Though really, this is such an infectuous series it practically pimps itself. ;-)
