Welcome to SID Guardian!

Hi, and welcome to SID Guardian!
- linking Guardian fanworks of all kinds
- linking to Guardian-related news (incl. info about the actors and their other roles) and meta (incl. serious meta, squee, picspams, episode reactions, writing-meta)
- making Guardian recs, and
- making fanworks-finder/rec-finder posts.
- ETA: You can also post content directly to the comm.
Which is to say, it's for letting Guardian fans find each other on Dreamwidth. :)
Please link your Guardian-related posts here! Whether novel or drama, this is the place for it. Don't be shy, and please encourage other Guardian posters to link as well. You can also link to/rec things that have been posted by others.
As the comm develops, we hope to introduce social, discussion and/or prompt posts, but given it's December, we thought we'd start small and manageable.
To kick things off, if you feel like it, tell us a bit about how you ended up in Guardian fandom! Or let us know your favourite character or scene from Guardian, or what your power would be if you were Dixingren.
And remember, there's no tension that can’t be relieved with a lollipop. And if there is, try two lollipops.

the moments that got me hooked in the pilot ep:
- shen wei's sleeve garters
- zhao yunlan's weaponized lollipop use (i mean omg)
- obvious team-as-family dynamic; gotta love that, plus the general isle-of-misfit-toys vibe of the group
- shen wei's obvs historical hearteyes and zhao yunlan's near-immediate obsession with figuring him out
- and let's not forget the show's ~subtle yet firm commitment to passing along the novel's m/m even in subtext - e.g. less than 15 minutes in, carefully making sure to frame zhao yunlan against the backdrop of a bit of ancient dick (ARTISTICALLY):
aaaaaaanyway :D i've been in slash fandoms since smallville and, while i don't write, did a lot in beta and cheerleading in a bunch of fandoms since (all the usual suspects from SGA to teen wolf and beyond). however, i haven't really had a fave show or pairing in quite some time, so this feels like a revival of sorts. i mean, i made a playlist so my friends know this is already super serious ;)
the weilan d/s dynamic, paired with the unique circumstances of their meeting each other and affecting each other's lives (...is this non-spoilery enough?), hits a spectacular number of my buttons. and while i'm generally not into angst, there is so much vagueness and hand-waving of plot points in the show itself that i feel comfortable with its, uh, implied open-endedness, shall we say. unfortunately i don't speak/read mandarin, but i'm genuinely blown away by the work that fandom has done in making this show accessible beyond the language barriers. ♥
anyway, hello & thank you for creating this comm! i look forward to spending much quality time here :)

I'm delighted to find someone else who was also compelled to watch the whole show in two days! It's a personal record for me, but OMG, I couldn't stop.
Personally I see the ending as open and hopeful, so I'm very happy with it. And the whole show. My only grief is that, like you (and too many of us) I don't speak Mandarin. But yeah, so much subtitling! For the show and the fanvids and the interviews! It's really great.
And DAMN, that screencap! I never actually noticed that, but OMG. This show is just delightful in so many ways. *stares*

the subtitling work is incredible! i mean, obviously much of it is not the same as professional media translation, but i am in LOVE with literally translated idioms followed by explanations in brackets. i even love the lack of uniformity when it comes to translating certain words, because it can provide insight into multiple meanings or aspects of the same term. plus there's the whole cultural learning side to it (i had no idea that the polite way to exit the conversation was to say "i'll leave first" for example). and omg, the names and nicknames and honorifics and...!!! there is so much to geek out about.
and yeah - that shot with the discobolus statue made me feel SO WELCOME. like, the show was telling me "we are your people, your lil slash-loving heart is safe with us, let's have some fun" which turned out to be MORE THAN CORRECT ♥

And yeah, fandom can be very educational that way! I love it. :D

To your point: SLEEVE GARTERS. I mean, my Inception history had me prepped to imprint on that. And everything else you mentioned is so on point.
Thanks for linking to your playlist! I bookmarked it because I'm still accumulating songs that remind me of them, and this is going right into the pile. <3

ahhhhh, inception. that's the reference ship that came to mind almost immediately; no wonder we got hooked this fast! (shen wei also wears COLLAR STAYS and they are METAL, not the utilitarian plastic ones sold in department stores, and - a;dkslj;asdjf;aksjdf he is SO MUCH.)
hope you find something you like on the playlist! <3

Interestingly enough, it seems Guardian has woken a lot of people from fannish hibernation. I was also at the point where I thought I'd never really fall for a show or a pairing again, and... yeah. I was so wrong. ;-)
There are so many little amazing moments to discover! And I think there's something for everyone, really - there is a lot of angst for those who enjoy it, but also a lot of sweetness and devotion and hearteyes and tucking your loved one into bed. Not to mention plaster penises in strategic places. ;-)
You're definitely in the right place if you're looking for a support group. Welcome!
