Welcome to SID Guardian!

Hi, and welcome to SID Guardian!
- linking Guardian fanworks of all kinds
- linking to Guardian-related news (incl. info about the actors and their other roles) and meta (incl. serious meta, squee, picspams, episode reactions, writing-meta)
- making Guardian recs, and
- making fanworks-finder/rec-finder posts.
- ETA: You can also post content directly to the comm.
Which is to say, it's for letting Guardian fans find each other on Dreamwidth. :)
Please link your Guardian-related posts here! Whether novel or drama, this is the place for it. Don't be shy, and please encourage other Guardian posters to link as well. You can also link to/rec things that have been posted by others.
As the comm develops, we hope to introduce social, discussion and/or prompt posts, but given it's December, we thought we'd start small and manageable.
To kick things off, if you feel like it, tell us a bit about how you ended up in Guardian fandom! Or let us know your favourite character or scene from Guardian, or what your power would be if you were Dixingren.
And remember, there's no tension that can’t be relieved with a lollipop. And if there is, try two lollipops.

Guardian hooked me for so many reasons: the cool monsters of the week, the amazing CGI, the wonderful ending... okay, wait, where are my meds?
The romance. I haven't seen anything this obvious since I was in Starsky & Hutch fandom (yes, I am that old). And the way Shen Wei just cannot stop looking at Zhao Yunlan ever (and that LOOK!) and how he is so beautifully fail at pretending to be a normal human (I fell off the roof. I guess... my back twinges a bit?) and how Zhao Yunlan is sharp enough to cut himself and just keeps digging and analysing until he's got Shen Wei figured out... and Zhao Yunlan's irreverence even before he's figured him out... and that whole thing where Shen Wei can flip into Black Cloak mode even while wearing those ridiculous sleeve garters... and so many other things. #coherence
I've been watching Jdramas for years now but this is my first Cdrama ever, and if I'd been told I'd become a fan of one, I'd have laughed. I don't normally like watching stuff in a language where I don't understand at least a little bit but since I speak lots of languages this is not usually a problem. Mandarin... is a problem.
I've been in fandom since 1979, covering Starsky & Hutch, Highlander, Due South, TokyoBabylon/X (also
I'm so new to this I don't even have an icon yet.

Hee! You're both doing the good work. :D
I'm currently trying to talk another friend into watching myself. Fingers crossed!
Yeah, ALL the things you mention! But I also do love the cases of the week (Dixingren of the week?), and I'm one of those rare people who actually likes the ending. What can I say, the way they both end up plotting their own demise as a strategy just speaks to me, and their final scene is hopeful enough to make it not a sad ending for me. But:
that whole thing where Shen Wei can flip into Black Cloak mode even while wearing those ridiculous sleeve garters...
THIS, so much. It's so compelling to watch - the way the person beneath comes through, in both roles. Sometimes like flipping a switch into Envoy mode, but sometimes just the subtle steel underneath the mild-mannered surface, or the unexpected kindness under the mask. Seriously, I love that SO MUCH.
And everything you say about ZYL, of course, because I adore him and his irreverence and cleverness and persistence, and also the way he knows how to back off sometimes. Because he pushes boundaries a lot, but that's not all he knows how to do. ♥
I don't normally like watching stuff in a language where I don't understand at least a little bit
Oh god, tell me about it! I don't speak a word of Mandarin, and I don't like subtitles in general, even good ones! AND YET.
If you're looking for icons, I can dig up links later?

My main problem right now is actually figuring out what should be 'canon' in my head, or how different canons can fit together. Doesn't help that the translation of the book isn't finished yet and then there's apparently a fix-it to the series by the author of the book and waaah, complicated! But it's early days. It's been a looong time since it's been 'early days' in a fandom for me, so it's all very exciting.
The monsters of the week... hm, it really depends. That water, uh, creature? Not so much with the interesting. Little girl and her teacher, much better. Little girl who kills her tormentors with her voice, awesome!
But then I'm a heartless bitch who even finds that the Hanga arc could take up just a little less time.
Icons! I'd love some. Or one. I'd make my own but I don't even have a store of screen grabs yet. It will come, it will all come.

Well, strictly speaking there isn't reincarnation in the drama 'verse, but there are such things as disembodied people, and getting buried and sleeping through 10,000 years, and so on! So yeah, it's easy to work with.
(I'm strictly a drama fan - I tried the translation of the novel and found it wasn't for me - so I'm not really into borrowings from the novel's worldbuilding.)
The water guy really wasn't interesting, but his father and his past with Shen Wei was! I did like that he kept turning up again. But yeah, some cases were definitely more interesting than others.
The Hanga arc - yeah. The whole Wang Zheng/San Zan backstory was a bit much. But I do like the way the show parallels them them and Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan.

I like some of what the book does a lot so I'm still trying to figure out what works for me. I probably won't know for sure (and stick with series canon) until it's all been translated.
Thaks for the links, will check them out RIGHT NOW.

and how he is so beautifully fail at pretending to be a normal human (I fell off the roof. I guess... my back twinges a bit?)
HEE! This made me think he should at least have let Zhao Yunlan see the clawmarks from the shadow dude, except then of course he'd have had to go to the hospital, etc, etc.

Clearly pricking his finger on a sharp trap and bleeding REAL BLOOD absolves him of all suspicion. :D

Shen Wei adheres to the Clark Kent school of subterfuge - just open your eyes wide and be especially cute and hope nobody calls you on your huge, honking, obvious lies. Most of the time he doesn't even seem to be trying at all.
that whole thing where Shen Wei can flip into Black Cloak mode even while wearing those ridiculous sleeve garters...
Do not malign the sleeve garters!
Maybe Shen Wei thinks the sleeve garters are all he needs to maintain his guise of harmless professor, like some kind of semi-magical disguise item? As long as he wears sleeve garters, he can jump off roofs and fight shadow creatures and pretend to have been in the car / hotel all along, and everyone will have to believe him... because sleeve garters!
