Scene discussion poll -- what next?
Round Six of scene discussions is coming to an end soon. We really like having the regular posts to keep the comm active and feeling lived-in, but we're heading into a busy time of year for a lot of people. Please fill out the poll (and elaborate in comments!) to say what we should do next.
Poll #26294 Plan for the rest of the year

TBH a kind of post I'd love to see (but couldn't make myself) is a fic rec list! I love seeing what fics people love and hearing about why they love them, especially if they're themed somehow. :) (It's also the best way for me to find fic I want to read, because I'm quite bad at trawling through a tag, but someone else going "Hey this is cool for this reason!" makes my brain go "Oooooh interesting!")

Yes, yay! (The scene discussions were never meant to take over the comm, but other things have got quiet lately, while of course the scene discussions have a handy schedule to keep them going. :-)

Ooh, yes, recs would be awesome!! For me, the only downside with having them in place of a scene post is that they don't provide a lot of scope for discussion, and I really enjoy the interactions and digging into things on the scene posts. But we don't have to have recs every week.
(Fwiw, we had a themed reccing meme a couple of years ago, and I've been vaguely wondering about suggesting that again. I don't know if now would be the best time, though, given exchange season.)
(And now I'm wondering if there's a way to do some kind of interactive reccing fest, maybe with prompts? Like start with three prompts/tropes/whatever, and whoever wants to post recs for one of those leaves a comment with the rec + a further prompt, and someone else responds to that prompt, etc, etc, and people can jump in and branch off at any point in the chain. Or maybe I'm over-thinking this. I have been known to... :-)

Oh I love that idea! Reminds me a bit of the Guardian Rec Bingo on Twitter, which I loved doing. A post for interactive threads like you described, or something like the bingo format, I'm definitely in. :-D

Does everything need to have scope for discussion, though? It's kinda nice to also have some posts where it feels easier to engage by just going "Oh, cool, thanks!" (which one could do on the scene discussion posts, but isn't how most people interact). (Both are good! I love the in-depth discussions! But it's nice to see other things too, y'know?)

Oh, that's neat! :) I think it'd be fun to see rec lists hosted directly on

That sounds fascinating and something that I would probably just observe without interacting with. xD; I don't read enough! But it does sound cool :)

*nodnod* You're right. (That's actually what I meant by "we don't have to have recs every week", but I now realise that was extremely unclear! :-)

*nodnod* Back in the day, the idea was to gently encourage content to stay out in the wild, so that more people would catch glimpses of Guardian's shininess and be lured in. I still have a slight leaning that way -- if everything happens on the comm, the fandom is more likely to shrink from natural attrition. But I also get you re the convenience -- I feel that too.

Ha, now that you say that, I realise I'm the same. (I still haven't read all the 520 Day fic, let alone the Wishlist collection!) I don't think a fest thing would work unless there were quite a number of enthusiastic reccers -- might be something to gauge interest in at a later date. But yeah, no reason people can't post recs (or rec lists) at any other time, including as part of the next round.

I feel you on the general exhaustion. Hopefully post-Yuletide we'll all feel re-energised (and not at all totally wiped out, ahem *g*).

Maybe we can toss in some discussion about things that make us think of Guardian? I know I have moments where I listen to a song and I'm like: omg that is so Shen Wei, or Zhao Yunlan, or Da Qing, etc :D
Either way, I'm super happy to jump in wherever! :D

Oh, there's an idea! If you wanted to host a post/discussion along those lines, that could be really fun! Kind of a crowd-sourced multi-media fanmix with commentary -- is that what you meant? (We'd prefer to keep the overall focus on canon, but it could be great to have a post like this in between.)
Either way, I'm super happy to jump in wherever! :D
Yayayay! :D :D :D It looks like we have a quorum, so I'll make a sign-up post in the next couple of days. :D :D :D

Yes, that's exactly what I meant! :heartheart:
