I was looking at this in the subs file this morning and it cracked me up.









For context, by then Lao Chu's face has been plastered all over the media.

So I imagine that in the real world, the dialogue would read more like 'Zhao Yunlan is harbouring a murderer from Dixing and WHAT THE FUCK were you thinking bringing him to us on Reunion Night are you CRAZY?? I touched his creepy doll! I knew that look he gave me wasn't right! Xiao Guo, you're grounded forever!!!

I meant Uncle Guo. *g* I mean, I'm mostly just messing about here, but if I'm serious for a moment, the uncle strikes me as the kind of nice, kind, straight-laced guy who might be made thoroughly uncomfortable by having a minor but utterly baffling reaction to Zhao Yunlan's brand of aggressive subby slutty cool guy flirting.

Personally, I see this more as how to talk with your neuro-atypical nephew rather than specifically your gay one, but I agree that either reading is valid.

I mean, a direct attack on the boyfriend (or anyone, really) will just get sputtering and protestations. But xiao-Guo is a good thinker if you give him the space to be.

To me this is really not about the gay thing but about the hanging-with-a-murderer thing. Which no matter what kind of nephew you have (okay, unless he's kind of shady too) , you might just ask if he's okay and is the murderer maybe coercing him or does he (nephew) know something uncle doesn't know. Not just 'random murderer here, come home'.

I think Guo Ying is used to a lot from Xiao Guo. ;-) I mean, even without the murderer from Dixing part, Lao Chu is a bit... off, shall we say. But he and his wife are so glad Xiao Guo has made a friend - ANY friend - that they are all smiles at the broody weird type who brings a creepy doll along and scowls and glowers at everyone.

Who knows what kind of weird and bedraggled lost puppies Xiao Guo has dragged home before, is what I'm saying. Lao Chu is probably the normal one.
