Ha, so true. Zhao Yunlan is always in relationship mode, whether they're outside Ye Huo's house in the middle of hostage negotiations or walking down the street to confront the Crows. I feel like Shen Wei might compartmentalise more, if not for that.
I feel like they might try a bit of 'traditional' date stuff but eventually conclude that, really, it's not necessary to make such a fuss of hanging out, and scheduling is a pain in the ass when you're two very busy people with unpredictable schedules.
Honestly, that's my inclination, too. Though they might eat out, occasionally, and if they do, I'm sure one or other of them wouldn't pass up the opportunity to take the other somewhere they'd like.
Anyway, I think their first date would be a walk in the park so Shen Wei can enjoy the sun, and Shen Wei probably brings some food so it turns into an impromptu picnic eventually.

Yes! I do think they'd occasionally eat out, partly because Zhao Yunlan doesn't want Shen Wei to feel like he always has to cook for there to be really fresh food on the plate and partly because while Shen Wei is an amazing cook, he has some blind spots in terms of recipes and ingredients that may or may not be cultural or related to having grown up 10,000 years ago and Zhao Yunlan occasionally gets a craving.
Honestly, I think it'd go something like this:
Zhao Yunlan will suddenly blink halfway through the meal and go "Oh hey, we're on a date" and Shen Wei will say "Eat your food Zhao Yunlan" and Shen Wei will smile and Zhao Yunlan will eat his food and it will indeed have been a date even if they didn't name it as such from the get-go because why call something a date when their entire lives together would qualify?
(Then again, this might be my own bias as to the connotations of the word 'date' shining through 😅)

I think it could absolutely go like that, and sometimes does.
I think it could also go: Zhao Yunlan suddenly blinks halfway through the meal and goes, "Oh hey, we're on a date," and Shen Wei meets his eye and his expression softens and he remembers again that they're here, together. They found each other again. And they're happy. And Zhao Yunlan smiles that smile, and together they share a moment, and then Zhao Yunlan says something teasing, or the waiter interrupts, or Shen Wei clears his throat and asks if Cong Bo has found anything on the current case yet, but that moment casts a glow over the whole evening, even when they're not doing anything particularly special. You know?
Like, their whole lives together do qualify, but it can still be meaningful and lowkey thrilling to stop and acknowledge that occasionally? :-)
