Focus on: Shen Wei covering Zhao Yunlan in his jacket in episode 26
Location of scene: episode 26, 05:42-07:09
This is a short scene, so there’s not that much text here, but there is an excessive number of screencaps, because Shen Wei is just so pretty, and the whole scene is so soft and lovely, I couldn’t stop myself.
Scene set-up: Shen Wei’s place got ransacked, so he’s staying with Zhao Yunlan. They talk over what happened on Zhao Yunlan’s leather sofa. Shen Wei took off his suit jacket; Zhao Yunlan is in his leather jacket. They start going through case files; the scene cuts.
Next we see them . . .
We start with a very nice close-up on Shen Wei cutting an orange (and a shout-back to episode 8 where there was a plate with orange peel in Zhao Yunlan’s kitchen!). He finishes cutting it, carefully transfers the orange to a plate to serve to Zhao Yunlan, and dries his fingers.
Then he looks back to Zhao Yunlan, ready to call him.
And he stops when he notices that Zhao Yunlan has fallen asleep over the case files.
He looks extremely fond (he loves him so much! It’s so domestic!) and walks over to Zhao Yunlan.
He proceeds to carefully and lovingly cover him with his own suit jacket. It’s better than any blanket with the power of love ;;; It kinda looks as if he wants to sit down on the sofa, but then decides against it (not to disturb Zhao Yunlan? To get a better look at him?).
Zhao Yunlan is asleep. Shen Wei looks pensive.
Shen Wei sits on Zhao Yunlan’s coffee table. He keeps looking at Zhao Yunlan. He digs out his pendant of pining from under his shirt and holds it.
Finally, he smiles.

Okay, actual thoughts today:

I love the fruit continuity so much! And Shen Wei clearly paying attention to what kind of fruit Zhao Yunlan likes! :D
He looks extremely fond (he loves him so much! It’s so domestic!)
That's what gets me the most about this scene, how absolutely BRIMMING with fondness Shen Wei is both here and at the end when he sits there watching Zhao Yunlan and smiling.
It kinda looks as if he wants to sit down on the sofa, but then decides against it (not to disturb Zhao Yunlan? To get a better look at him?
I'd say both, but also, he doesn't even take the papers away before he covers Zhao Yunlan with his jacket! He doesn't want to disturb him even that much! Which fits 100% with him deciding not to sit on the sofa.
What was Shen Wei thinking of? Do you think he was considering his own plan to stop Ye Zun? What made him smile in the end like that?
Time loop memories, probably. But I don't think he was thinking about his plans, just then. That smile at the end – to me it looks like this is a rare moment where, despite plot and everything, he gets to be just happy to be here-and-now. ♥ ♥ ♥

Shen Wei scouring Zhao Yunlan's flat for clues while he was cleaning in much the same way ZYL and Da Qing searched his apartment earlier! :D :D :D
Oh, I wonder if they had oranges in YOHE... *googles* Yep, probably (or at least, citrus -- I didn't delve deep enough to check variants).

I think Shen Wei's smile is as close as he gets to just living in the moment, thinking of Zhao Yunlan right there and asleep and so beloved he almost can't stand it.

The pensive look on his face does make me wonder now about your question.Or maybe he notices how it's a sign of trust from ZYL's side to fall asleep with SW in the room?
After holding his pendant of pining(LOL),I like to think that this is one instance where he might not be thinking about big plans and everything but instead just be feeling like he's lucky to have come across 'Kunlun' again.Or maybe because Zhao Yunlan is just so cute when he's sleeping and Shen Wei feels fluffy inside? :D Especially with that smile.

If memory serves me well, I think the music that plays in this scene is similar to what plays during the infamous YOHE lollipop scene on the cliff! It's a melancholic, yet beautiful and nostalgic tune evoking a sweeter and more innocent time that is beyond reach. It's so fitting for this moment, where Shen Wei basks in Zhao Yunlan's company: quiet, safe, and warm, all things he rarely ever experienced in his life. And since the same music plays during both times, it makes it even more clear that Shen Wei is thinking back on that time and maybe even that moment in particular!
BTW, the song is "乱心曲" from the OST if anyone is curious. In fact, the character "乱" is also used in novel!SW's poem about how first seeing Kunlun "disrupted/made discordant" (乱) the "melody of his heart" (心曲)! (Someone more proficient in Chinese can correct me if necessary!)

Shen Wei was probably reconsidering his plan to stop Ye Zun many, many times, but he couldn't find another solution without (what he believes) risking Zhao Yunlan's life and wellbeing in any way. This may have been one of those moments of reconsidering, if only because he's happiest when with ZYL, especially when he's relaxed and peaceful. He wants moments like this to last forever, but he's lived long enough to know that's impossible. So it's better to live in such moments to the fullest because there may not be another one again.
Maybe it's just me but this scene feels like one of the closest moments to Shen Wei being like his younger self in the present (right behind many scenes in episode 1 when he's realizing ZYL is but isn't Kunlun). We don't see him - and Zhao Yunlan - not often vulnerable like this in the show. How can Shen Wei not smile over this fortunate gift from the heavens? :D

I can see them on that cliff, several hours into a watch on a chilly night, and after losing track of time from watching the stars, bb!Shen Wei notices Kunlun is quieter than usual and sees he's fallen asleep. Rather than wake him (or having failed to gently wake him), bb!Shen Wei covers Kunlun with his robe and continues watching over the camp while the great general he admires rests.
I've wondered if Shen Wei has seen Kunlun fall asleep many, many times back then, and has kept those moments close to his heart. So to see it happen in the present feels all the more special: it's deja vu for SW, and he gets to witness the first time ZYL fall asleep in his company like this. ^_^

There's also a baiju theory: Ma Gui and Zhao Yunlan brew baiju to make the sacred wood sprout, and I believe that takes at least a month. :-)

Yes, that's one of the things I love about him. He's good at planning and strategising for the future, but still able to stop and appreciate what's in front of him, enjoy the little things, cook a fine meal, etc. It's a wonderful balance. *hearts*

I think he's in the habit of reaching for the pendant when he misses Kunlun. It's a tangible reminder of their past and of Kunlun's promise they would reunite. Since he got to know Zhao Yunlan in modern times, sometimes he reached for it when ZYL was being achingly not!Kunlun -- like when he was all skittish and ran away after the liniment scene -- or when Shen Wei was unsure about his course of action, like in ep 12 outside the SID, after the experiment bed (black singlet) scene. But here, Shen Wei reaches for his pendant like he's testing it out, maybe? Testing himself and his feelings? And then realises he doesn't need the past for comfort anymore. The gap is closing, Zhao Yunlan is very clearly becoming Kunlun, and Shen Wei loves him now as much as he loved Kunlun then. I think it's the realisation of what he has right in front of him that makes him laugh.
This might be the last time we see him reach for the pendant? I may be wrong, but if it is, I think it's because he doesn't need to anymore: he has Kunlun right there.

For whatever it's worth, in some recent Cdramas I've watched, there have been scenes where the husband/boyfriend/wannabe-boyfriend covers the wife/girlfriend/wannabe-girlfriend with his jacket. I don't think my limited viewing is enough evidence for it being a Cdrama indicator of a relationship, or general caretaking, but maybe someone else with more experience with Cdrama romances knows?
For question 1, I always feel like Shen Wei is thinking about Zhao Yunlan here. He might be thinking about his endgame plan. The smile, though, makes me wonder if he's thinking about the past. Looking at the necklace and remembering Kunlun, then maybe smiling at himself for saving (what he now knows is) such an ordinary thing as a keepsake because it was Kunlun's.
