Coming soon: the First Annual Interdimensional Haixing-Dixing 520 Day Reverse Exchange (hereafter known as the 520 Day Reverse Exchange)! This is a multimedia fanworks exchange for 镇魂 | Guardian fandom. Everyone is welcome to join in! :-)

What is 520 Day? 520 sounds like "I love you" in Mandarin, so May 20th is like Valentine's Day. We thought an exchange would be a great way to celebrate the day!

520 Day Reverse Exchange General Concept

As the name suggests, this is a reverse exchange, also known as a Choose Your Writer/Artist/Fanwork Creator exchange. Instead of making your request and that request being assigned to a writer/artist/fanwork creator, here:

1. You sign up with the kinds of things you enjoy creating.


2. You choose three writers/artists/fanwork creators based on anonymised ads.


3. You make a request of each of them based on what they enjoy creating.


4. You are assigned one request to create for, based on your offer.


5. You receive a gift from one of the creators you chose.

You can offer and/or request fanfic (including RPF), fanart, icons, vids, podfic, meta, a remix of an existing fanwork, or fanart for an existing fanwork. Or any combination of the above!

Hopefully this means you get an assignment that fits you like a glove, and just the gift fanwork you’re looking for -- maybe even from one of your favourite authors, artists or creators!

• Sign-ups: Saturday 30 March - Friday 05 April


• Claims: Saturday 06 April - Friday 12 April


• Matching: Saturday 13 April - Tuesday 16 April


• Assignments out: Wednesday 17 April at the latest


• Deadline: Monday 13 May


• Work reveals: Monday 20 May (there is no anon period)

Minimum requirements

• Fanfic and other written fanworks (meta, etc) - at least 300 words


• Art (drawn) - a sketch not on lined paper, at least 500x500 pixels


• Art (digital) - an edited/manipulated digital image, at least 500x500 pixels


• Vids - at least 30 seconds long


• Icons - at least 3 icons


• Podfic - at least 3 minutes

I'm not sure I'm understanding the set-up correctly, so I'd like to ask for clarification! :-) With the progression you describe, isn't it possible that someone / some offers might not get picked at all and some ads will get picked a lot? Or is there some first come, first serve basis where people know which offer already got picked?

(Either way strikes me as potentially stress-inducing, so I want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. *g*)

All the offers will be anonymised, so no one will know whose they are. When an offer has been requested three times, it'll be removed from the list of available offers. But from experience with similar set-ups, things always end up spread around pretty evenly. :)

As china_shop says, the format isn't really made for treating. But the minimum requirements are very low! And if you're not sure you can commit, perhaps you might be able to pinch-hit? We can ask when/if something comes up.

And heh, I'm just... terminally incapable of writing anything short! My chocolate box fics were 4k-8k in length. XD So it's a matter of not knowing until much closer to the deadline what my availability is like!

Haha, I totally hear you on the long fic. Most of my ideas tend to be for longer fic, too. Short fic does sometimes happen for me, but I can't make it happen on command.

How are you going to handle drop-outs and pinch hits? I've been on pinch hit lists before, and it's a nice option to have. I'm away during the entire sign-up period, but would love to participate in some way!

I can probably be online, but as this would be my first-ever exchange (!) and I've never even seen a reverse one done before I'd want to make sure I had it all figured out and a good "ad" written?
