I have strong opinions about their clothes (both of them pretty much equally! ♡), but only because they're just really damn GOOD, hah, not really because I have a lot of additional thoughts. :D (I also don't have the negative opinions about some of their style choices that other people seem to have. :D)
I have drawn that grey sweater and distressed jeans several times, so that last answer is not even that hyperbolic, lmao. :D :D
Btw I may soon be trying to work somewhere where Shen Wei's style would fit my worksona so well, lol, to the point that I recently photographed a mannequin in a store (I don't think it has ever happened before - what I normally wear is not the style that mainstream mannequins get to wear xD), so thank you, Professor Shen. xD :D
I do have lots of thoughts about what Zhao Yunlan finds the sexiest about the Envoy, hah, what a wonderful question! :D :D
I voted for mystery (though I think it's not the sexiest thing per se, just the thing that made him initially so interested) and eyelashes (which may be me projecting because if Zhao Yunlan paid this much attention to the Envoy's eyelashes, he would immediately know who is under the mask xD those are some otherworldly eyelashes that no one else has xD BUT STILL ♡___♡) and definitely his mouth and the things it does (like smiling :D *blinks innocently*), but a huge part of my answer is "other":
Mostly early on: Danger! :D Real or perceived, and the fact that everyone else is terrified of the Envoy.
Mostly later: Protectiveness! And why Zhao Yunlan is so worth protecting and seemingly so important, which I guess circles back to mystery. :D (Same with Professor Shen, and it is part of the reason why he figured out his identity.)
(And I do LOVE the idea that trying to piss his father off is involved - it definitely is! But I didn't vote for it because idk if it's part of the attraction or just a nice added bonus. :D :D)
Also, I'm learning Mandarin because of Guardian, 100%, I never would have started otherwise. :D :D

They are so good!!! And I really love a lot of the things that I've seen people diss. I think the only outfit I actively dislike is Shen Wei's plaid suit in ep 6, and that's just personal preference. I'm glad he gets to wear whatever makes him happy!

Hee! Shen Wei would be so pleased to have influenced you! *g*

Ohhhh, that's an excellent point! Of course that would be a draw for ZYL!! It would really help to balance the fact that the Envoy is seen as a stickler for the rules, which I feel like ZYL would automatically want to rebel against. But yeah, that touch of danger...

That's awesome! How did you get started, if you don't mind my asking? I think about it sometimes, but it's so daunting, I don't even know where to start. /o\

"Hee! Shen Wei would be so pleased to have influenced you! *g*"
:D :D :D I like to think so. xD :D
This is the first time I looked at that picture since I took it and apparently you can't see anything, lmao. (Mostly me reflected in the window, but it's not identifiable so, I can post it here. :D) But the necktie/necklace (I don't even know what it's called, but I'm sure Shen Wei does xD) was so prominent and shiny, and I just went 'ohhh, I suddenly NEED the Shen Wei vibe??' and couldn't move on until I at least took a picture. :D
"It would really help to balance the fact that the Envoy is seen as a stickler for the rules, which I feel like ZYL would automatically want to rebel against."
HAH YES, and the possibility of rebelling and being annoying is very appealing to him in itself. xD And he can do that with both the Envoy and Professor Shen. xD :D

As much as it's not the popular or highly recommended option, I started with Duolingo and it has worked out for me just fine. :D (The desktop version, completely different from mobile - I've never tried the mobile version of Chinese, but for other languages it was maybe 10% as useful as the desktop one.) I still only use Duolingo as 'organized' learning (though there are many other options that I haven't tried), and now that I understand a bit more I also use reddit (r/ChineseLanguage mostly) or I just look things up directly if something sounds intriguing. :D Especially rules and patterns because Duolingo doesn't explain those. And then there's
Mandarin is so refreshingly simple after Korean btw (at least at the beginner level, which is where I still very much am)! I can read/understand some Korean (I don't think I can speak/write it much anymore, beyond some super basic things), but grammar has defeated me at some point, and so far I never went back. xD But I've never watched any kdramas, and I feel like that would be one of the most helpful things. :D

It's *very* cool, especially in conjunction with the vest. I suppose it doesn't count as a bolo?

*nodnod* I know Korean has a reputation for being very hard to learn, for English speakers, but I didn't find it particularly bad. I'm out of practice, but at least it has an alphabet that's mostly phonetic (as a non-visual person, characters are a huuuuge barrier to entry for Mandarin) and no tones. ;-p But then, I like grammar and am terrible at memorising vocab. At one point I was working hard to acquire as many words as possible, but I've lost nearly all of them now, and the prospect of trying to get them back is super daunting. /o\

Haha, yes! They really are fantastic. Honestly, the entire regular cast has great clothes that fit their characters incredibly well, but of course Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan stand out. :D

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Do you think ZYL finds it exciting being protected? Or do you mean protectiveness of other people? Can you say a bit more about this?

(Also sometimes frustrating, because they're both often so "do as I say, don't do as I do", but still. *g*)

Turning up at the Dixing Palace all bloody and yet still defeating Wu Xiaojun to protect Zhao Yunlan and Guo Changcheng in episode 38.
(I mean, I do also think Zhao Yunlan finds the Envoy protecting him in the Hanga caves sexy on some level! And Shen Wei grabbing him by his lapels in the nosebleed scene, in a different way. But I think it's just a different thing once they're more on the same page - about each other and about the stakes.)
no subject
Even with the nosebleed scene, to us as viewers it reads as protective, but I'm not sure that's how it lands for ZYL, or what he likes about it? Maybe he's into the manhandling qua manhandling? Mostly, he's busy trying to defuse Shen Wei's glaring, imo.
But I was thinking after I commented (and wasn't near a keyboard so couldn't say) that the scene in Dr Feng's clinic where Shen Wei instinctively wants to stop Zhao Yunlan from sacrificing his sight (ep 22) fits the bill perfectly. I think that's the epitome of protectiveness and "these two seem so different on the surface but are so similar underneath". Neither wants to see the other hurt, they both know that, but they also won't stop them from doing what's right.
For that matter, the wrist grab in my icon might work?
Caveat: It's likely I'm reading everything differently from most people (and quite possibly wrongly) because protectiveness is not my kink; that makes it harder for me to see it as a kink for ZYL. So please feel 100% free to ignore me!

Yessss, to me Zhu Hong is especially A++, at the same level as the two of them, which is the highest compliment. :D :D (I'm rewatching episode 12 as we speak, and her necklace in these episodes is epic, and the entire outfit is just so on point! And she gets to be so badass in it! :D)

I generally try to write things, then run them through Gtranslate or Papago to see if they make sense - which also helps me pick up typos. Idk if that's cheating or not. *g*
I think K-팝 is a great reason to learn. I started because I wanted to know when drama characters were speaking formally/informally to each other, and the subs never tell you.

1) They are fantastic, perfectly chosen and all suit his character extremely well.
2) Except for that one horrible checkered suit, which is simply an eyesore.
3) I will fight you if you claim Shen Wei's casualwear is random or doesn't suit him.
Point 1) applies to Zhao Yunlan as well. No further notes.
As for the Envoy's sexiness: I could tick every single one of those options, but decided to be slightly more restrictive. Like, sure his mystery is sexy, but I don't think Zhao Yunlan finds him significantly less sexy after he's no longer mysterious, you know? Also, eyelashes and mouth are both very fine, but I don't think the physical traits are at the top of Zhao Yunlan's attraction in the drama, even at the very start.
Guardian was my first-ever cdrama, back in 2018, and yeah, I'm learning Mandarin because of Guardian. Now it's useful even in non-c-ent contexts! The last thing I watched was Young Sherlock, which had a prominent Chinese character and a whole bunch of scenes with Mandarin dialogue! Most of which I could follow well enough to notice where it didn't entirely agree with the English subtitles. :D
