Why does modern-day Ye Zun have a shift/train rather than a billowy cloak like the Envoy’s?
His cloak is in the wash

It kept catching on things

Fashions have changed in the last 10k years, and he keeps up with the trends unlike *some* people

I can't even say which bit I like best; it's all in the way he's just not Shen Wei, so clearly and visibly. Oh - maybe the best detail is that he pushes up his glasses differently from SW! So much love for that. :D
Yes, all of it. He knows the outline, but he colours everything in wrong. (The suit, too, is so very Not Shen Wei's Style.)
but the draught excluder was funnier, so I went with that. *g*
:D The draught excluder was a late addition. I needed more options. :D
Btw, I wonder how differently things would have gone with Ye Zun if he hadn't had to stand everyone talking about Hei Pao Shi in such glowing terms, during his empillarment. Like, it's one thing to want revenge on your terrible betrayer of a brother; kind of another if everyone is constantly going on and on about what a hero and noble righteous person he is. Maybe that's what made him level up to Destroy Everything Mode!!?

Oof, yeah, that's a good point!
I mean, a big part of it all is the pillar itself - while he's trapped in there he can only stew in his own feelings; he can't move on and build a life for himself, which might help him grow beyond it. But the fact that he can't escape his brother's reputation has to be a constant thorn in his side, making sure he can't forget about SW ever, even if he'd let himself. Absolutely no wonder he's worse in the present than he was in the past!
(I wonder about Sang Zan. He was also trapped in a pillar, and there were the ghosts of his tribe as well, everyone who'd turned against him and Ge Lan. Maybe they couldn't reach him, so he didn't constantly get it all reinforced? I don't think we know ...)

Yes, plus the mostly solitary confinement. /o\ (The Hallows are not so much with the rehabilitation approach to imprisonment. /o)

Or maybe after a while he started to listen, and somehow learned to see both sides of the story?
no subject
Yeah, maybe! He didn't have a single enemy to focus all his hatred on; maybe that made it easier to learn to hear what everyone was saying.

Plus Sang Zan had actually wronged people. If he could step outside his feelings for Gelan, even just for a moment, he might be able to feel the horror of what he did. (He didn't have however many years of mind control and brainwashing under his belt, either.)

Part of it could also be just the timescale? Sang Zan was empillared for 300 years IIRC (or 100? anyway), while Ye Zun was in there for 10 000, which is like over 30× as long. Lots more time to go mad in 10k years!
no subject
Oh, very true! *does not want to think about what Sang Zan might have been like after 10k years*
(What if 10k-years-imprisoned Ye Zun and Sang Zan teamed up
to take over Sunnydale??)no subject
