It would! This is making me wonder how much/often Shen Wei usually bothers to cook for himself.
(Ahh, yay! :D :D :D)

I just thought, you know, cooking elaborate meals for just yourself is such a slog. But maybe he does it as a meditation type exercise...
no subject
Also, maybe he cooked for his friends!

Doesn't have to be elaborate meals? Just ordinary homecooking.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering. (I feel like ordinary homecooking in Chinese terms still involves multiple dishes.)
Maybe!
I wonder what the cooking facilities were like in the teachers' dorm...

Aw, I love that! Cheng Xinyan living her best life instead of subsisting on random lunch snacks. :D

But originally I just thought 'but what else would he be willing to eat?' :D
Heh. Good point, he does have rarefied tastes -- though having grown up during a time of famine, maybe he wouldn't be that picky after all? I'm not sure about that.
no subject
Because he only likes this one specific lollipop and nothing else will ever compare. :Dno subject
Elaborate? Am I missing something here? Because I can't tell where this is coming from at all.

I was thinking relative to ZYL and the SID generally, who seem to subsist entirely on packaged snacks and street food (with the occasional orange to stave off scurvy).

Maybe a tiny bit. Xiao Guo seems to adapt pretty well. :D

Oh yes, absolutely, but in terms of nutrition, I expect his intake has taken a nosedive. (Otoh, he's getting lots of exercise and sunshine, training the park, so that will make up the difference.) ;D

I have a bad habit of importing cultural norms from Kdramas, as if a) Kdramas bear any relation to reality, and b) the East Asian cultural sphere is more homogeneous than it probably is, so I always assume that in the absence of parents, Changcheng lives with his uncle and aunt, since there's no reason for him not to.
I read a fic where he went 'omg this is so not okay' at the SID eating habits and started cooking for CSZ. :D
Awwwwwww! :D

Oh, huh, suddenly I have no idea if it's canon or not. The dinner with ZYL and SW is in a restaurant, and even if he's flatting, going home for the Reunion Festival would be very normal... Do we see any more of Changcheng's homelife than that? I've just been assuming (and may have been incepted by fic).
but if they don't even know enough about his work, they may not be all that interested in what he's eating?
Maybe. Or maybe they talk about other things at family dinner, and Changcheng doesn't mention the SID because someone impressed on him how secret the work there is (and also he's a bit embarrassed about his klutziness) (and also, when dangerous things happen, he doesn't want them to worry)?
But I'm equally in favor of both headcanons - this one, and the opposite one where he eats great nutricious meals at home and is horrified to see how much it's not the case at work. :D
Aww, yes. Or option c), he imprints so hard on the SID that everything they do it good and right, even when it's objectively scurvy-inducing. :D :D :D
