Note: I didn't include the Sundial exchange itself in question 1 because I don't think that was done in the spirit of sacrifice. Feel free to @ me!! ;-)

I don't think he has rarefied tastes? As far as I can tell, what we know about him and food is just that a) he's not fond of sweet things, b) he's not fond of greasy street food, and c) he likes to cook.

Hah, yep, the SID standards and general standards are at least slightly different. :D :D

AW! :D I feel like Xiao Guo needed exactly this chaotic gremlin energy to come out of his shell. :D They're the best thing that ever happened to him. ♡

Heeee, and now I'm wondering what he ate before - if his uncle and aunt were feeding him/making sure he ate, or if he ate like a college student, which imo is very comparable to eating like a SID employee. xD (I know his grandma fed him as a kid, but that's a long time ago.) I read a fic where he went 'omg this is so not okay' at the SID eating habits and started cooking for CSZ. :D

I'm assuming he lives with them, yeah (isn't it canon? at least it's heavily implied, otherwise idk where I'd get it from :D), but if they don't even know enough about his work, they may not be all that interested in what he's eating? Plus he just graduated college, where he probably learned to eat in a way that would make him fit right in with the SID. :D But I'm equally in favor of both headcanons - this one, and the opposite one where he eats great nutricious meals at home and is horrified to see how much it's not the case at work. :D

Yeah, I thought he said in episode 6 that he lives with them, but he didn't, so now I have no idea at all, lol.

"Or maybe they talk about other things at family dinner, and Changcheng doesn't mention the SID because someone impressed on him how secret the work there is (and also he's a bit embarrassed about his klutziness) (and also, when dangerous things happen, he doesn't want them to worry)?"

I'm so amused that this topic came up here and in the current readalong post at the same time. :D :D I can totally see all of these reasons, definitely, along with the novel canon where he just says "I'm doing well" and leaves it at that (for pretty much all of these reasons).

"Or option c), he imprints so hard on the SID that everything they do it good and right, even when it's objectively scurvy-inducing. :D :D :D"

:D :D And this one too! ♡ Lol, GCC buying weird-ass convenience store snacks for himself instead of making dinner because that's how the cool kids eat. xD The options are all so good, and somehow 100% in character. :D

"Haha, I think that might raise eyebrows. Maybe he code-switches in terms of food, like people do with language. :D"

Hee, that was under the assumption that he lives/eats alone - I can totally see him coming home with a handful of snacks one day and just eating that for dinner because it's a whole new world for him. :D (And then his stomach would probably be pissed at him because he's not used to it, and he'd never do it again outside of work. :D)

"/coming back to this a week and a half later, oops"

That's like literally nothing in dreamwidth time. :D :D

"You don't have to emulate Chief Zhao to that extent!!"

Bwahhhh. ♡ Some balance in emulating his new favorite people is definitely recommended (and Xiao Guo is reasonable enough to figure that out). :D

I assumed, too, but suddenly I don't know any more!

But what I really can't imagine is him living with them but not eating with them. *g*

Hah, me neither! :D In episode 6 (where I thought he said he lived with them, but he didn't), he does say "They're very nice to me, but they're very busy", and he works weird hours (and they probably do too), so I could see them not eating together just as a result of not seeing each other enough, even if they do live together.
trobadora: (Zhao Yunlan - not wrong)

Yeah, maybe they're both so busy they don't regularly eat at home at all - then it would work.
