Focus on: Shen Wei's smiles

Instead of a scene discussion, this time around I made a picspam (+ file share).

I went through the series to collect as many of Shen Wei's smiles as I could, and here is a small selection of what I found.

Not all of his smiles are sincere and some are very much in the eye of the beholder. My rule of thumb for inclusion was if it seemed more smile than not-a-smile. Also, some are definitely smirks! Because why not.

oh my god I just came back to my computer after doing dinner things and leaving the zip file to download and paging through them is like a rollercoaster ride through the show itself-!!! god the smiles are gorgeous, devastating, happy, sad, pained - the smile in the kitchen scene tore my HEART out god and the comparison between bb Shen Wei smiling with tears in his eyes at YOHE Ye Zun "returned" to him vs Shen Wei in the wormhole, smiling with tears in his eyes at Zhao Yunlan returned to him from the past like it's such a similar smile and I'm having so many emotions and then!! The final set of smiles from the finale!! Bloody, dying... in the void outside time and space... pls ;_; what a beautiful collection skjdngksjdng

What an excellent subject for a collection! And it is as I assumed, 90% of his smiles are for ZYL or about him (like the pinky swear with Da Qing). Gotta love that.

Ooh, this is lovely, thank you! Look at the way the corners of his mouth are tucked in so often, as if he's afraid/too private to let go and smile big (in the picture with the white shirt and the pendant, it's actually giving him that gorgeous dimple). It's almost entirely at the end that he starts smiling without thinking about the consequences.

Arranging the screencaps in episode order, this really jumped out at me. Those tight smiles at the start, and the more natural smiles at the end...

How many ways there are to smile! I think the best one is from past Shen Wei: so uncomplicated. What an amazing chemistry they had.

That last pic is so cute - I know it's in the Hanga ep where he's talking to the students, and he was smiting monsters with calm competence a hot minute ago, which makes this supremely dorky harmless smile so much fun.

The way Shen Wei seems to have a lot of tension in his jaw even while smiling is really noticeable once you isolate the moments like this, and fascinating. He literally never lets go until the end.

Until I put these screencaps together, I hadn't noticed the consistency from beginning to end. Shen Wei! *sob*
