china_shop: Three-quarter profile of Shen Wei being unimpressed (Guardian - Shen Wei srsly?)

Translation question (spoilers for ep 24)

In episode 24 when they're defusing the bomb in the hospital, Shen Wei says this:

Which the version of the subtitles I have translates as, "I’m sorry, the things I kept from you, I will tell you one day."

But Google Translate seems to think the middle line (我瞒你的事情, lit. I will keep your secret (I think?)) is also a euphemism for "I love you."

Can anyone confirm or deny that? And give hints for how to use it euphemistically, if possible?

It literally does mean exactly what it says on the tin. "The things I have kept from you".

wo man (I hid/kept) ni de (from you) shi qing (things)

I would be very interested in hearing how one could reinterpret this! (Not kidding, I'm serious. I'm always up for learning Chinese language details.)

How characters depend on each other within Chinese sentences is the hardest thing. Ugh.

If you regrouped the characters, you could - without context - get to:

wo man (i will hide/keep) ni de shiqing (your things/secrets).

But... no. That is not what he means here.

Yeah, it's totally got to be Out of Context Theatre!

In context it has to be(我瞒你)的事情, but out of context, as a sentence in isolation, it makes sense that [personal profile] china_shop's brother parsed it as 我瞒(你的事情), doesn't it? I mean, from what little I know about Chinese. *g*

Yes, exactly.
