Okay, food for thought here particularly in your second paragraph. Just to check, since 'kun, chan, tan' aren't exactly the same as 'ge, je, didi' - would you also drop 'neesan, baachan, obasan' and the like in Japanese? (I'm trying hard to remember what my own practice was...)
