I forgot this was the episode with drunk Zhu Hong, lol aw, poor bb. (And wow, the choice to put this scene right after super domestic and naked-coded Weilan is not subtle. :P)

Yeah, I feel bad for her, even though these unrequited love plotlines annoy the hell out of me. She does feel it so hard.

My favorite part about this storyline is that it exists, hah. Imo it has less impact in the novel where Weilan is explicitly canon, but the drama getting to have a major storyline (even bigger than in the novel, with extra scenes like Zhu Hong's dream) where everyone gets to say "Zhao Yunlan is in love with Shen Wei" over and over is just really cool in the context of censorship. (And in the novel version I really like how openly and enthusiastically Zhu Hong moves on in the end. :D)

That's true, I didn't consider it that way. (It's just a trope that bugs me every time it happens, even though it's also good to show that not every relationship works out, that even if you want someone you might not get them, etc.) I read the novel really quickly and don't remember all the details, I'm glad she did move on though!

My favorite quote about it (and one of my favorite Zhu Hong quotes in general), from the epilogue:

In under twenty days, this girl’s worldview seemed to have been shattered only for her to somehow cultivate a fascinating frame of mind that included the motto, “Loving someone means wanting to see him get railed.”

And I can relate so much to just forgetting huge chunks of the novel, especially when binge-reading! (And it doesn't help that some things are super confusing and convoluted! During the recent readalong in this comm we analyzed everything really closely and sometimes we still couldn't figure things out. xD) I only got a better grasp on it on my second read. :)
