Regarding Da Qing: in the scene, Da Qing gives the impression of having only just been given that mission when he runs into Zhao Yunlan - I don't think it can be more than a few hours. And now that you say it, I think the Envoy must have sent word to Ma Gui and Fu You - that would make sense since some new outsider suddenly turning up in the middle of their war would be something they needed to know, and IMO it's also the only sensible explanation for why they'd send Da Qing out now, as opposed to some earlier point in time after they first skyped with Zhao Yunlan.

it's a lovely set and I get irrationally offended on its behalf when Zhao Yunlan talks about getting them new offices, LOL
Ha, I know! Didn't we speculate at some point that it was in an unfashionable part of town, and he was angling for somewhere closer in / higher status?
the Dixing bar (such a fascinating look into everyday Dixing, which we don't get anywhere else, and I love all the weird little details they put in)
Ohh, how did I not vote for that? I did a whole post on it! (But I'm not changing my vote this time.)
and IMO it's also the only sensible explanation for why they'd send Da Qing out now, as opposed to some earlier point in time after they first skyped with Zhao Yunlan.
Do we know how long the gap is between the Skype call and ZYL's arrival? Now I come to think of it, the Skype call might have been what prompted them to send Da Qing out looking (once someone had made the sketch)?

Yeah, I remember that speculation!

After ZYL arrives in YOHE, tells him: "Not long from now, we will communicate across ten thousand years. At that time, it was you who inspired us to continue fighting." That sounds like it was some time ago, and had a deep and lasting effect on them.

Belated follow-up questions: message via dark-energy means or mundane means? what do you think Shen Wei is doing in the meantime? Seeing to his men?
no subject
Yeah, he's probably seeing to his men.

This is such a fantastic explanation, YES! Yay for getting an answer to a question I've never asked myself before. xD :D
no subject
Hahah, right? I never thought about it before this poll either!
no subject
Ha, once again I make a poll and immediately vote for "other". *facepalm*
The main room at the SID and ZYL's flat are both my absolutely favourites! I love everything about both of them. I also voted for Shen Wei's office (for all those cosy late-night chats) and the streets of both realms. My "other" is actually multiple outdoor locations: a) the university campus, b) the park, and c) specifically SW & CSZ's meeting place with the circle-paving. <3
ETA: Aaaand now I'm changing my vote to include the Dixing bar (for all the little details), and "other" for the second question (having decided Fu You and Ma Gui were spurred into action by the Skype call).
no subject
And LOL, you changed your vote after all! The bar is very deserving of another vote. :D

Same! :D ♡♡♡ And yesss, the campus and the park are lovely too, I didn't think of them. I love all the Dragon City greenery. :D

Yes, agreed! I love the disasteriness, and the cat things, and all the weird quirky little knick-knacks, and his ridiculous light-up booze-storage coffee table. It feels so delightfully lived in. (Shame about the fridge, lol.) :D :D :D

It seems kinda weird to have Da Qing just wander around all over Haixing hoping to encounter Kunlun, who could appear at any location at any time. I'd like to think they had more specific intel, possibly from Shen Wei.
no subject
Oh yes, great reasoning! They're all such enjoyably designed spaces. (I find that, to a lesser degree, with Shen Wei's office too, and I do love that he has fish. :D)

True! They probably can't rely on the Hallows to bring them together in a fated-to-meet kind of way, either.

Yes! I love that so much. They really went all out. ♥ ♥ ♥
Totally agreed about Da Qing's search.

I have so much fun whenever I remember to look for more details in places that are not Zhao Yunlan's flat - there is always SO MUCH going on, and I feel like I haven't seen even half of it. :D (And even in Zhao Yunlan's flat I always keep finding new details too. :D)

ITA! I've never even wondered about that before, but this explanation just makes so much sense.

yet?, but it has fish and it's so neat and shiny :D), and also the pillar because it's COMPELLING, lol. Oh, and other - the cliff in YOHE (which idk if it counts because it's a natural location) and the little square that Xiao Guo likes (which I guess counts broadly as Dragon City streets, but I'm still singling it out). :DThe second question is SO COOL, I've never wondered about that, and now I'm a big fan of the explanation that he's looking for Shen Wei's benefactor. :D
no subject
Definitely Zhao Yunlan's flat. ♡♡♡ It's such a HOME in every way
Yesss, you can really see the accumulation of possessions over years. (Like, I can't imagine that coffee table was a particularly recent acquisition? It feels like a "just out of university" choice to me, LOL!) And yes to all the sprawling opportunities. :D :D :D :D
and also I love drawing his bed, lol. and the main room at the SID (with the couch that I also got to draw :D)
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
the cliff in YOHE (which idk if it counts because it's a natural location)
Totally counts if you want it to!! (I nearly included it in the poll, but then I was getting like, well, where do I stop? The Dragon City bench? The various tea shops?)
and now I'm a big fan of the explanation that he's looking for Shen Wei's benefactor. :D
Yay! :D (Ha, despite having offered that as an explanation, now my perverse brain keeps trying to come up with other plausible alternatives. ;-p :D)

And excellent point about the cliff, that's definitely a location that should count!

Yeah, I don't think he's carrying provisions or anything.
