Ye Huo is beaten up pretty badly, and Xiao-Guo is really worried about his condition, so that makes sense to me as a reason why his powers aren't working well.

Ha, it would be very cool if his dorm kitchen was full of expensive/arcane cooking instruments. :D

All these young, soft Haixingren who've never known war... (I say that, and now I'm wondering about the political history of Haixing, and whether there have been wars there, either civil or international...)

Haixing's history is such a fascinating thing to speculate about! My headcanon is that there hasn't been a war anywhere nearby within ZYL's lifetime, at least.

Yeah, me too. ZYL does not give the impression of someone who's been through military training or compulsory military service. ;-p None of the Haixingren do.
