I think he knows ZYL has been following him, and that is part (but not all) of why he doesn't just teleport away from the mugging (using Wu Tian'en's power or another teleporting power). But ZYL is far enough behind that he also doesn't know if/when he'll catch up. Most of my reasoning is his lack of surprise at ZYL's arrival. Idk, I could be wrong.

(Btw, rewatching that bit, I do love that he's perfectly willing to stand back and let ZYL take on two violent muggers. Like, he's protective of ZYL, but he doesn't coddle him. *g*)

Wu Tian'en was hit with a crossbow bolt? poison dart? (meant for his son) by Huang Chaoyang's henchmen. I thought he'd died at the SID, but I just checked, and you're right. When the Envoy shows up and asks ZYL if it's worth using the Dial to save a Dixingren, ZYL says, "He's not dead yet." Huh.

ETA: So if drunk bar guy had "killed" ZYL in the sense that he was still dying, Shen Wei could save him.

ETA2: And that said, there is a resurrection power somewhere, because Ding Dun, and Shen Wei might know that. And that said, Shen Wei isn't thundering, "Where's the body? Show me!" so I think all this is irrelevant. ;-)
