Picspam: Lin Jing's Fashion

While I know there's (rightly!) a lot of focus on Shen Wei's outfits, I decided to look at Lin Jing's fashion choices for my picspam post. Partially because he makes some great choices and also just because I love Lin Jing as a character.

Just look at him - this is man who can not only rock his own unique looks, but also develop brilliant scientific breakthroughs while doing so.





As I went through the episodes, I noticed that Lin Jing has several outfits that repeat across different episodes. I also noticed that he does not wear his glasses outside of work! If he's out doing fieldwork or out on his own time, the glasses are gone. When he's working at SID HQ or the Haixing Inspectorate lab, though, he has them on. This leaves me with all kinds of questions. Are they subtle safety glasses? Does he not really need them out in the world? Does he stop to put in contacts before they go out on cases? Alas, these questions were never answered so we can only speculate.

Lin Jing seems to like hoodies, including sleeveless ones. It's how we meet him in the first episode. His failed experiment may have ruined his hoodie, but he either had a spare or bought a new one because he has a similar one that he wears both at the SID and out with Sha Ya.

He apparently loved the "Through Flowers" design so much that he decided to get it in both white and dark.







The Haixing Inspectorate lab appears to have a stricter dress code than the SID, as this is the only place where Lin Jing wears a lab coat.





Maybe my favorite shirt of Lin Jing's is his Snoop Dogg shirt, which he wears both in the lab and out in the field. It leaves me with lots of questions, ranging from how much of Earth's popular culture overlaps with Haixing's to Lin Jing's tastes in music.





Lin Jing in jackets? It's more common than you'd think. (And probably more common than he'd like, as it's often when he's been assigned to fieldwork rather than his lab.)

Since I started with a pic of the first time we meet Lin Jing, I suppose it's only fitting to close with the last time we see him. (Don't worry - he and Da Qing are only house sitting while Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei are off on their honeymoon!)

Oh, this is fabulous! I think my favourite of his outfits (the one I notice most) has always been the STRIKE OUT sweatshirt (hee!), but it's lovely to see all the different looks gathered together.

Does he stop to put in contacts before they go out on cases?

Haha, I love that idea, and it seems entirely plausible to me. You wouldn't want to wear contacts in a lab, where you might have to flush something out of your eyes, but he's vain enough to not want to be seen in public with glasses on. *pets*

I never knew the t-shirt was Snoop Dogg (lol), but I adore the way it's side-eyeing Chu Shuzhi in that screencap!! :D :D :D

I find the bright purple top with tan jacket combo quite startling? The colour scheme seems out of keeping with his other clothes to me (I don't know fashion!), and it's especially bright with orange-clad Zhu Hong standing right next to him.

Btw, I just went and looked at ep 40 to see what the weird almost-lavender fold of fabric is inside his jacket (I think it might be a pocket? I'm not sure), and I think there's something printed faintly on the back of that jacket -- what do you think?

I also figured safety factored into his decision to wear glasses in the lab and I can definitely see the vanity angle. (Maybe not as bad as Zhao Yunlan who unashamedly preens in front of crime scene bathroom mirrors but still.) And honestly, that's some serious dedication to vanity, especially considering what a pain it can be (at least for me) to put contacts in. This leaves me wondering what the reaction is from other SID staff when he stops to put them in - does he get teased for it? (My guess is yes.)

The purple shirt was a bit different for him. Everything else seems to be more black, white, and grey/grey-blue (I'm horrible with naming colors). Maybe it was a gift.

Good catch with the final scene! I can't tell if it's printed on the jacket itself or if the jacket is very thin and the print is on his shirt underneath. Either way I can't make out exactly what the print is :( And that leaves me wanting to know.

It wasn't until reading this that I noticed those repeated shirts, including the white "through flowers" one that I think he's wearing under the lab coat. Actually, your picspam has made me see how little I paid attention to what he wore and his glasses-wearing habits- how on earth did I never notice his Snoop Dogg shirt?? Great pictures, and I definitely prefer your take on the picture with Da Qing.

I didn't catch the glasses thing until I started compiling pics. Honestly (and this is probably bad), it didn't really click in my mind that he wasn't wearing glasses in some scenes until I did this haha.

As for the pic with Da Qing, honeymoon house sitting is the only explanation I'm willing to accept XD

This is a great collection! Yeah, I'm bad to do this actually. If it's comfortable, I'll buy multiple colors and then just rotate them. Fortunately, no one is compiling pic spam of me to catch me doing it XD

Definitely. And you're right - he's quite vain. It's some real dedication, though, to take the time to put contacts in while at work. (At least I'm assuming he puts them in at work when he goes from being in the lab to then being out in the field.)

ME TOO! First time watching I was so caught up in the plot and didn't pay much attention to what anyone was wearing until that shirt. It completely pulled me out of my binge-induced stupor because suddenly Snoop Dogg haha!

The purple shirt is so different color wise from what he usually wears but I think it works well on him.

YAY!Always here for some picspam. I'd done a post on Jin Ling's 'through flowers' tee shirt once so I completely get the fascination with his outfits!Also,he mostly wears blue, blue-white and some grays!

I.... never noticed that! Alas, poor Lin Jing, not the focus of my attention. >.< I wouldn't be surprised if they were some combo of safety glasses and maybe reading glasses? For the longest time my dad never wore his glasses at home because he wasn't needing them for using the computer at work and so forth, so maybe it's something similar? Or yeah, maybe he's just vain and puts in his contacts when going out, haha.
