Picspam: Guo Changcheng & Chu Shuzhi & Ye Huo
I’m really into their friendship and/or threesome lately, so here is the picspam of Changcheng, Chu Shuzi and Ye Huo from episodes 18-20 and episodes 37-38. With a little bonus in the form of Chu Shuzhi/Guo Changcheng/Ye Huo ficlet at the end.
I love how they went from this:

to this:

And finally to this:

Bonus ficlet is here - a fluffy canon-divergence AU rated T for a little bit of kissing. It’s not betaed and English is not my first language, so please forgive unavoidable SPAG errors. 😊
Ye Huo sometimes went back in his memory to that moment in the underground fighting ring when he met Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng for the first time. Chu Shuzhi presented such an imposing figure even at first glance and Changcheng looked at first like a meek human boy, lost by accident somewhere when he shouldn’t be, so weak and scared, holding on the hem of Chu Shuzhi’s coat for dear life.
But Ye Huo had to revise his first impression of Guo Changcheng very quickly when just a few days later he saw him defending Chu Shuzhi against a much stronger opponent, still shaking a little with fear, but standing strong with fire in his eyes. And then in the absolute zero lab Guo Changcheng was willing to sacrifice his life without any hesitation and doubt just so he could tend to Ye Huo’s wounds.
Ye Huo was ready to die then, he was sure he would die, just trying with the last remains of his strength and his power to at least make sure that the other two would survive. But they all survived, and Ye Huo somehow even managed not to pass out in the car when Chu Shuzhi took him to Dragon City Hospital.
He didn’t know if he had a place to go back to when he left the hospital. But Chu Shuzhi and Changcheng were there waiting for him – Changcheng with his sunny smile and quiet strength hiding in his lithe body, and Chu Shuzhi with his gruff demeanor that couldn’t hide his worry and care. There were there, and Ye Huo didn’t even know why at that moment he felt lighter that he felt for a long, long time.
They helped him, and let him inside their home and invited him to stay. And some time later they stopped him when Ye Huo wanted to run away, overwhelmed by his growing feelings and scared of destroying the fragile balance between the three of them.
They invited him into their bed, and into their life. Ye Huo said ‘yes’ before Changcheng could even finish his passionate speech, and he shut up Chu Shuzhi’s affectionate mocking with his mouth. Which led to the three of them falling on the bed in the tangle of limbs, and it ended with the syrupy sweet bliss when the release hit his sweaty, panting body.
Which now meant he could have plenty of moments like that first time, but also like this one – all three of them huddled together on the couch watching a silly comedy Changcheng chose. Well, Ye Huo wasn’t really paying attention to the movie and instead was indulging in watching Changcheng giggling at the hero encountering another hilarious misfortune, with his eyes shining with mirth and cheeks pinked from joy, looking so beautiful and comfortable squeezed between Ye Huo and Chu Shuzhi on their too small couch, leaning against Ye Huo’s shoulder with his legs stretched over Chu Shuzhi’s thighs. Chu Shuzhi was absentmindedly stroking Changcheng’s calf, his fingers going into slow, gentle circles over worn-out material of Changcheng’s sweats.
When the movie ended Ye Huo put his hand on Changcheng’s neck and gently tipped his head backwards so he could kiss his rosy lips until Changcheng was sighing sweetly against his mouth, and then moaning when Chu Shuzhi run his fingers on Changcheng’s leg higher and higher and higher.
Yes, Ye Huo never thought he could have had happiness like this. But now when he had it he intended to hold onto it and never, ever let go.

“Here you are. Let’s work together from now.”

And there’s an entire journey in there, yeah, from that first to the last pic, from Ye Huo’s first appearance with all the misdirection and suspicion to the end with them happy to see each other. I love that little arc with the three of them, and it’s so thematically fitting for the show. ♥

I love it, too. And yes, I agree. And I admit that, since I last time watched Guardian a long time ago (at least two years probably), I forgot how harsh Ye Huo was during that first talk. It was so satisfying to rewatch those five episodes while preparing this picspam, and experience this journey for the three of them again. :)

I keep staring at the framing in the second screencap, with Chu Shuzhi standing apart from the rest of the SID (though Changcheng is closer than the others), and Shen Wei in the background between him and Ye Huo -- the three Dixingren in the scene all framed together, with Shen Wei angled so he's on Chu Shuzhi's side. And of course, Zhao Yunlan off to the right, with his hands in his pockets. <3
(I could read various things into this framing, like that it's Shen Wei/the Envoy and his influence that's the difference between Chu Shuzhi's and Ye Huo's circumstances?)
In the third one, I really like how Ye Huo is facing up to Zhu Jiu squarely -- he has as much reason to fight him as anyone else. (And hee, Changcheng looks so tiny in the background. *pets him*)
The fifth one! I'd forgotten that initially it was Ye Huo and Changcheng huddled together, and Chu Shuzhi trying to be stoic on his own (is that what's happening?). Awww! And as I saw Dorinda saying recently, each of them trying to save the others even if it means risking their own life.
That final scene is such a wonderful culmination of their arc. I love how pleased they all are to see each other, and the confidence with which they team up. *hearts and hearts*
And then your ficlet, awwwwww! Poor Ye Huo, coming out of the hospital. He must be so worried about his proteges (oh, wait, did they survive Zhu Jiu's attack? I can't remember), and he has that feeling like he doesn't have anywhere to belong after that, too. Aww! *pets him* But you gave him such a sweet, happy ever after! *loves*

Ohh, interesting, I never thought about it like that, but I like this interpretation.
And as I saw Dorinda saying recently, each of them trying to save the others even if it means risking their own life.
Exactly, the three of them are really similar when it comes to saving and helping other people. That’s why they fit so well together whether it’s friendship in the drama or romance in fanfic. 😊
And thank you for sweet words about my ficlet. It brightened my Sunday morning. ♥ ♥ ♥

Oh, great thoughts! Yeah, that makes a lot of sense to me.
I also think it's fascinating that the shot falls into basically two groups, Dixingren + Zhao Yunlan on one side, and everyone else (SID members both human and Cat Yashou, Bo Bi and one of the boys Ye Huo was protecting) on the other side, with Xiao-Guo being the one to almost-but-not-quite bridge the two groups ... Obviously that doesn't fit with the actual dynamics between the characters on an individual basis, so it's a super fascinating grouping!

Oh, yes, good point. Definitely lumping Ye Huo in with the action heroes, there -- which makes sense given he returns in the final episodes to help out the good guys. :-)

I'm also fascinated by this: with Xiao-Guo being the one to almost-but-not-quite bridge the two groups . Maybe we can look at it as foreshadowing, since we learn later that Xiao-Guo's pure energy*, unlike normal Haixingren energy, is compatible with dark energy, and he even develops a Dixingren-like power as a result of Professor Ouyang's serum. So while he doesn't bridge them yet, he eventually does at least in a metaphysical sense (I mean, having to do with his nature as an existing being), and I like it when fics have him do so politically as well.
*Am I the only one who hears that in Mr. Spock's voice because of that song by Information Society?

Yes, I like it when Changcheng gets good at politics, too, even if it's in quite small ways. After all, he lives with politicians...
I'm not sure I see his pure energy as the thing that bridges the gap in this particular framing, though, because Zhao Yunlan's on the left, and he doesn't have a power. So maybe it's that Changcheng is a field-agent-in-training, even if he's not great at it? Idk.
Ha, I hadn't heard of that song before. :D

Oops!!! I got so wrapped up in Xiao Guo as a bridge between Haixingren and Dixingren that I forgot about ZYL!
I like your field-agent-in-training idea, especially since he seems to become more competent as he goes along.

Your ficlet packs a lot of feelings into a short space; I especially liked how you wrote Ye Huo's POV. <3 And how comfortable and physical the three of them are together once they become a threesome. That last scene where they move from cozy cuddling during the movie to sexy intimacy afterwards was both sweet and hot!

And thank you for the picspam! Loved to revisit their little arc. So much growth between all of them!
