In the process of writing this post I remembered that I had my own pre-canon bodyswap fic idea so maybe that will get written at some stage and add to the Zhao Yunlan + Shen Wei count :3

(I talked about it very very briefly on twitter back in May so I don't mind sharing:

WHAT IF, right, what if pre-canon bodyswap and Shen Wei wakes up feeling like absolute trash, stumbles into the bathroom with eyes barely open, has a shower to try & feel better, gets out can't find a towel, opens eyes and KUNLUN??? HE'S KUNLUN?? WHAT? HOW-???

By the time ZYL knocks on his own door asking for Professor Shen, wearing Shen Wei's body like a slightly dishevelled suit, SW has cleaned ZYL's apartment to within an inch of its life & tried to psych himself up to the fact that he's going to meet Kunlun again??

ZYL doesn't recognise him ofc, & SW's problem now (aside from being stuck in Kunlun's body, Kunlun not remembering him, & not knowing why they swapped/how to turn back) is that ZYL is exceptional at reading his own face & SW's masks are useless...

LOL, I love how my casefic ended up being [REDACTED] – it makes it look all official and classified! :D

I also wrote another casefic with bodyswap elements – Soul Eaters (Ye Zun walks around in Shen Wei's body for a bit but not vice versa) – and I wonder if most twin bodyswap-type fics end up taking a similar route due to Ye Zun not having a body of his own for most of the series' run? So it would mostly go outside the bodyswap space and into adjacent territories like possession. Someone fact-check me on this.

Ah, that's a very good point! I agree that if Ye Zun doesn't have a body it's possession, for sure. So any twin actual-bodyswap would have to be after Ye Zun re-bodies himself in the latter part of the series, in YOHE, or post-canon🤔🤔

Hee, bodyswap is one of my favourite tropes, so I'm very well-represented here (thank you! *hearts*), and I appreciate these recs very much!! :D :D :D (And now I have a zillion more tabs open... *g*)

Bodyswap thoughts: I don't necessarily see it as a path to romance, though it can be very intimate? Mostly I just really love giving a character the chance to see through another person's eyes. That "walk a mile in their shoes" kind of thing. Plus I really love unexpected or random combos. (And ha, now every swap I can imagine is sparking story ideas -- like, for example, what if Guo Changcheng and Ya Qing swapped? Hijinks! And a possible fixit! (Will I write that? Maybe! *makes a note* ;-) ... See?)

Ah, that makes sense! It's not really a viewpoint I've considered much before (I'm mostly all about the ~feelings~) but I can definitely see where you're coming from, for sure. Guo Changcheng and Ya Qing would be quite a hilarious swap! I look forward to your possible maybe future fic :3
