Pic Spam: Affection and Protection!
I am such a big ChuGuo fan, and I was pondering what to do for my scene/discussion, and I decided to start looking into all the little moments between Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng, primarily focusing on affection and protection :D
I haven't gotten far yet, but I have scoured the first episode for all the little moments where Guo Changcheng sought out protection from Chu Shuzhi.
In my HC protection is definitely one of Chu Shuzhi's love languages (which I suppose comes down to acts of service?!?!). EITHER WAY, I hope everyone enjoys this little pic spam moment from me :D
Here is the first instance in episode 1 where Guo Changcheng hides behind Chu Shuzhi, albeit he hid behind both Chu Shuzhi and Zhao Yunlan.

Guo Changcheng is FOR SURE hiding behind Chu Shuzhi here.

I know it's not Chu Shuzhi in this one, but I just thought it was cute that he was all hiding behind Zhao Yunlan as well.

Oh no, Guo Changcheng scared himself by kicking over some cans (or something!) and Chu Shuzhi is unaware that he has incoming!

He's for sure aware now XD

We jump ahead to where the Shadow Man has arrived! Guo Changcheng is definitely arm/coat clutching here. XD

As Hei Pao Shi arrives for the first time XD This was pretty blurry apologies :) I was just screen grabbing from my videos :)

Chu Shuzhi happily helps Guo Changcheng show the correct respect to HPS' arrival XD LOLOL.

Interesting note here I just realized Lin Jing was the last one to drop his gaze with HPS' arrival. XD Even Da Qing is all: I will lower my eyes a little bit.

Guo Changcheng wants to say something to HPS XD It gets scary for him. Clearly Chu Shuzhi is less scary than HPS because he immediately scoots closer and arm clutches.

And that's it!
I could probably scream to the void for hours on end how much I love their dynamic. The grump and the sunshine and each trying to protect each other in their own special way :D
Some Points to Ponder and/or questions:

- What are some of your favorite Chu Shuzhi/Guo Changcheng moment?
- When I was re-watching episode 1, I didn't realize how quickly GCC did glom onto CSZ. For some reason in my brain, it didn't really start until episode 3ish. I have no idea why my brain felt that!
- No matter how many times I rewatch the series I feel like I spot new things I never noticed the last go around XD I actually watched the episode with no sound on and I was just all: Oh wow I never noticed that before! at several parts. Some of it was facial expressions, but also scenery and such too. And I sure have watched the first episode more than once (or twice XD) and this is why I love this show :D

Heee!
Chu Shuzhi happily helps Guo Changcheng show the correct respect to HPS' arrival XD LOLOL.
Yesss, I love that so much! One character making another bow to show respect to a third is such a delightful trope! ♥
Guo Changcheng wants to say something to HPS XD It gets scary for him. Clearly Chu Shuzhi is less scary than HPS because he immediately scoots closer and arm clutches.
Awww! And I looove that he speaks up anyway, bless his brave little terrified heart! <3
What are some of your favorite Chu Shuzhi/Guo Changcheng moment?
I love when Changcheng challenges CSZ when Zhao Xinci is doing his terrible loyalty test. Changcheng is still a bit intimidated, but he's fierce, too, and I think Chu Shuzhi is a bit impressed at Changcheng confronting him. And I really love the mahjong scene and the walk home after, and how happy Changcheng is/was to have Chu-ge there with the rest of his home-family. <3333

I do that sometimes, too! It's a great way to properly appreciate their faces and really see their interactions. <333

Awww! And I looove that he speaks up anyway, bless his brave little terrified heart! <3 - YES! I love that too. Being scared doesn't mean you can't be brave :D

But I love all of those especially the mahjong scene :heartheart: :D
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! I appreciate it :D

Thanks, you! *hearts* I have a lot going on atm.

That made me think about which Chu Shuzhi thing is bestest, too, and that made me think about the post-dream-sequence conversation where Chu Shuzhi tells coma!Changcheng about his past, and Changcheng wakes up and tells me, "You're a very good person. You're not scary at all." *clutches my heart* <3 <3 <3

What are some of your favorite Chu Shuzhi/Guo Changcheng moment?
I love their scene in episode 40 near the end, when Chu Shuzhi tells Guo Changcheng: "Ye Zun called you the best nutrition for the Guardian Lantern. You've endured so much and never gave up."
When they go to Dixing together and Chu Shuzhi tries everything to try to get Guo Changcheng not to follow him but Guo Changcheng of course stays with him. And after the whole Lord of Nightmares vision, when Chu Shuzhi tells Guo Changcheng the truth about Nianzhi and Guo Changcheng wakes up. It's all so good!
No matter how many times I rewatch the series I feel like I spot new things I never noticed the last go around XD
Same! I always notice something new. Rewatching this show is always so rewarding.
I actually watched the episode with no sound on and I was just all: Oh wow I never noticed that before! at several parts.
Watching it with no sound (and no subtitles) is fascinating! I see things I had never noticed before.

And after the whole Lord of Nightmares vision, when Chu Shuzhi tells Guo Changcheng the truth about Nianzhi and Guo Changcheng wakes up. It's all so good! - Chu Shuzhi tried so hard to scare Guo Changcheng away!!! And yes, the Lord of Nightmares visions was a fabulous episode as well!! Such awesome Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng moments!
Watching it with no sound (and no subtitles) is fascinating! I see things I had never noticed before. - Same! It just allows you to focus on everything that might possibly get glossed over as you read and listen to things and without it you see so much more :D
Thank you so much for reading and commenting!! :D I'm so glad you enjoyed and I appreciate you commenting!

Your question inspired me to make some picspam of my own. I hope I'm not stepping on your toes here, but I couldn't resist!
What are some of your favorite Chu Shuzhi/Guo Changcheng moment?
I ♥ ♥ ♥ the scenes at the underground fighting ring, first when the guy Xiao Guo bumps into makes a threatening move and Lao Chu moves our cinnamon roll protectively behind him and looks at the guy, who decides to move on.
Then Chu Shuzhi turns to Guo Changcheng -- the first time I watched it, I thought he was going to scold GCC for being clumsy (I think Changcheng thought so too!), but instead he says,"No one here will hurt you." Then he tells him to stick close. MY HEART!!!
And then when Ye Huo is like, bruh, your li'l friend ain't gonna survive here, and Chu Shuzhi gets up in his face (as he does) and says, "I will protect him, and that is enough."
And as if that didn't make my heart go sufficiently splodey, Ye Huo comes back toward the end and hangs out with CSZ and GCC and helps them. I made some imaginary subtitles for one of those scenes:

The underground fighting ring is likewise one of my favorite episodes for the two :D
I ♥ ♥ ♥ the scenes at the underground fighting ring, first when the guy Xiao Guo bumps into makes a threatening move and Lao Chu moves our cinnamon roll protectively behind him and looks at the guy, who decides to move on. - I love Chu Shuzhi's expression here. It is just all: HOW DARE!

Then he tells him to stick close. MY HEART!!! - I too thought he was going to scold GCC and I agree with how you're reading GCC's expression here XD And YES no one here will hurt you. *SOB* My heart cannot take it!
And then when Ye Huo is like, bruh, your li'l friend ain't gonna survive here, and Chu Shuzhi gets up in his face (as he does) and says, "I will protect him, and that is enough." - I hopped over to watch the scene real quick and all I gotta say is there is so much jaw-clenching by CSZ XD I love it!
And as if that didn't make my heart go sufficiently splodey, Ye Huo comes back toward the end and hangs out with CSZ and GCC and helps them. I made some imaginary subtitles for one of those scenes: - This made me laugh out loud in such a good way XD
Thank you for adding in your awesome pics and comments as well! :D So glad you liked this post!

So much with the yay!!!
I hopped over to watch the scene real quick and all I gotta say is there is so much jaw-clenching by CSZ XD I love it!
Yes! SO MUCH. I remember discussing this scene with another friend and talking about how Chu Shuzhi takes on greater risk by insisting on protecting Guo Changcheng. Chu Shuzhi could easily take care of himself in that environment, but taking on bodyguard duties is a whole 'nother level of potential trouble.
Oh, and HOW DARE is CSZ's expression in a nutshell!!! *claps*
Also, I forgot to say how much I loved your caps, because I too had not realized how quickly Xiao Guo gloms onto Lao Chu!!! Clearly Chu Shuzhi is less scary than HPS made me giggle. Because TRUTH.
And when CSZ was making GCC bow to Heipaoshi, I had NOT noticed Lin Jing and Da Qing!!! I like the subtle details you point out. ♥
This made me laugh out loud in such a good way XD [evil grin] I'm glad it made you laugh!

That's such a good point! And despite that, Chu Shuzhi doesn't hesitate to extend his protection. (I wonder if having Guo Changcheng there makes him more careful and restrained, because he can't afford to lose control of the situation or Changcheng could get hurt? Like, if Changcheng hadn't been there, how much more confrontational would Chu Shuzhi have been??)

Because TRUTH. - Yes! I really thought it was a few episodes in that he gloms more onto CSZ. For me, I think perhaps the first few episodes I was still trying to figure things out, and only with watching it so many times (so many!!) that I'm like: Oh huh! Look at that. He all sticking to him first episode XD

In my HC protection is definitely one of Chu Shuzhi's love languages
Oh, absolutely, I agree. My favorite moments are the ones when Chu Shuzhi protects Guo Changcheng – like in the illegal fighting ring case: "I will protect him, and that is enough." ♥ Or when they are in danger of freezing to death and Chu Shuzhi tries to warm him up, and he covers Changcheng with his coat. ♥ ♥ ♥ And one of the smaller moments - when they are in Dixing at the end and Chu Shuzhi sees this white energy beam and he instantly knows that Changcheng is in danger.

Interesting note here I just realized Lin Jing was the last one to drop his gaze with HPS' arrival
oh dear, as a Lin Jing fan now I want to start analyzing his relationship with HPS and Shen Wei respectively...
What are some of your favorite Chu Shuzhi/Guo Changcheng moment?
My absolute favorites are both in episode 18--one at the boxing ring just before Chu Shuzhi goes in to fight, when Xiao Guo says "Chu-ge..." and Chu Shuzhi grins at him and it's basically "I love you." "I know." And then later in the episode when they burst in to un-kidnap Lin Jing and Da Qing; they're just absolutely delighted with each other and Da Qing has to say "Could you quit with the mutual admiration society and untie us already?!" <3
No matter how many times I rewatch the series I feel like I spot new things I never noticed the last go around XD
Yes! This is one reason I think (for all it's not without issues) it really is such a good piece of work; there are so many interesting small thoughtful details.
