This was fun! Even though I got only got two correct. XD

(I got 9 and 10. I was close on 7... *I didn't think about the fact that "pairing" didn't have to mean "romantic pairing," so I guessed Shen Wei／Ye Zun, though I also thought it might be Shen Wei/Ye Zun/Zhao Yunlan. Which is sort of funny since I've actually written a story that's tagged Shen Wei & Ye Zun, so you'd think it would have occurred to me!*）

Easy: #1, #2, #9, #10

Guessed correctly: #5 (I picked the lowest number), #6 (bodyswap seems to be very rare in Guardian), #8 (just because I thought there would be lots of variation), #14, #16

Guessed wrongly: #3 (I thought h/c would be higher), #4 (didn't think it was that many!), #11 (I thought there'd be more variaton), #12 (I underestimated the gen tag!), #15 (there's more amnesia than I thought!)

Should have guessed: #7 (in hindsight it's ovious, but I don't think of & relationships as pairings, so that led me astray. I was right on the RPS), #13 (obviously it's the canon het ship, but I honestly just drew a complete blank on the existence of any het pairings just now *g*)

Neither does, in the *coughs* fannish language tradition I'm used to. Gen relationships are only ever "relationships". ("Relationships" encompasses both gen and ships/pairings.)

#1 is super easy and I feel ridicuolous for getting it wrong. XD Especially after your post the other day with BBC Sherlock vs. ACD Holmes. Somehow I can never seem to wrap my head around the idea that adaptations of books are more popular than the original books (even in a case like Guardian where I haven't read the original myself!).

To be fair, early on the drama tag was bigger at least in part because a lot of people who were writing novel-based fic used the tag anyway, but the drama-only people didn't tag with the novel. (ETA: unlike MDZS, where most everyone seems to tag with the novel as a catch-all even when the fic is adaptation-based ...)

And LOL, you could even think of a het pairing! I didn't even get that far. *g*

Yeah, that's probably the sort of thing I was thinking of, because I've seen similar comments (or complaints) about the DMBJ adaptations all getting tagged with the novels even if the fics aren't novel-based at all...

Oh, yeah, I've heard that about DMBJ too. (And I think SHL started out cross-tagging TYK a lot, but seems to not do it that much any more? Not sure how that happened.) It's all very frustrating when you're looking for a particular canon - and it was just as frustrating the other way round with Guardian, back when there wasn't so much drama fic yet. *sighs*

I have the vaaaaague impression of seeing a few fairly well-circulated Tumblr and/or Twitter posts a while back asking people to please leave the TYK tag off SHL-specific posts, so maybe those had some effect?

I know I looked at the answers when you first posted this, but I've forgotten most of them :D

Ones I was certain about:
1 (Drama is more popular)
9 (Ye Zun is more popular)
10 (No Warnings Apply is more popular)

Ones I had guesses for:
2 (60% feels right)
3 (Hurt/Comfort is usually the most popular of those tags)
7 (something gen xD I wouldn't have been able to guess the exact pairing)
12 (12% seems right? but also, like, hard to say when I haven't looked at how many are tagged both m/m and gen...)
14 (20%?)
16 (2125, probably? because median.)

the other ones I didn't know, because they were about tags that I don't think about much/at all :)

(not gonna say how many I got correct, though! people can check my answers themselves.)

ETA: I think I found the questions that just said "of English-language works" the hardest, because that implies (but doesn't specify) adding both novel and drama works together, and that complicates things! I wouldn't know how to calculate some of them if I were looking at ao3 myself, either, due to all the cross-tagged works...

One of my favourite things about Guardian as a romance is how undeniably close ZYL & DQ are, and how their friendship contrasts with ZYL & SW's very different and deliciously UST/RST-y connection. Like, in a different show, if you had friends like ZYL & DQ, people would be shipping them, right? But here it's so obvious they're platonic, because we can see exactly what not-platonic looks like. :D :D :D

ahh, that's an excellent point! Like the ep early on when DQ is snuggling all over ZYL, in any other show, would be absolutely read non-platonically... but that looks nothing like how ZYL is around SW :D :D :D

That was fun. I got 6 correct answers. I was the most surprised by the answer to question 14. I really thought there were more explicit fics. But maybe I shouldn't be - after all I wrote 22 Guardian fics and only 2 explicit ones. :)
