Many, many thanks, trobadora. I put in Da Qing's sequence last and was really staring at that ending when I realized that Guo Chang Cheng's involvement with another loss of Da Qing's led to a sensible overarching philosophy for the song. SUCH a relief! My favorite, of course, was the rain scene.

I'm almost finished with Chu Shuzhi's video. The ending is still weak so I'll need to play with it more. After the main characters, he's the one that most intrigues me. The problem with working with a minor character is that you have to rip apart sequences in order to focus on that one person when they're in group action. The song is difficult because the words are inclined to multiple meanings when heard locally, and that causes problems with the visual action to go with the words. "I'm Not Going" by 3 Doors Down. I'm interpreting that as holding onto life but it keeps repeating the title and you don't always remember that meaning as you watch him actually leave the room. Sigh.

What I first had was the sequence where Chu pulls Guo away from the girl. That was weak. So I just left the smile and matched it to closeups that I cut into the puppet sequence. I truly don't know where solutions come from. Certainly not from my rational brain, which is just blubbering in fear that a solution won't appear. Then the solution peeks out from behind a chair and jumps up and down shouting, "Here! Me! I'm the answer!" And I sincerely thank it and put it in, and wonder where it was before it appeared behind the chair.
