Guardian Icon Quotes Fest

Reading one of the wonderful stories in the Guardian fandom, and squeeing over a particularly beautiful phrase, I thought, "Wouldn't this look great on an icon?" Let's find out! :) And what better time to do this than in the wake of the Sundial Exchange, with so many more good stories to quote from? So here's what we'll do:
Let's icon some quotes!
1) Collecting Quotes
Everyone can submit their favorite quotes by commenting to this post. And I mean everyone! You don't have to be an iconmaker to do this. If you have a quote you want to see on an icon, submit it! Hopefully, someone will want to make an icon for it.
Quotes can come from:
- the Guardian drama
- the Guardian novel
- all Guardian-adjacent fandom canons (some examples in the FAQ here)
- interviews with Zhu Yilong or Bai Yu
- fanfic in any of the above fandoms!
If you have more ideas for where to draw quotes from, let me know!
If you're taking your quote from a fic, ideally you should link the fic, or at least the author's name. (You can easily link ao3 names with the new @ notation: [at]authorname.ao3 ) You don't have to, but wouldn't it be nice to turn this into a fic-rec fest on the side? You can submit quotes from your own fic or from other people's fic.
Please restrict each of your quotes to one or two sentences, don't quote whole pages. It's okay to quote a (short) paragraph for context and mark the part you want iconed in bold. In any case, iconmakers will later have the freedom to shorten/adapt the quotes.
If you want, you may add information on which character the quote is from, or what kind of imagery you imagine would fit the quote. But artists will be free to do their own take on every quote, potentially ignoring this extra information.
You can submit as many quotes as you like.
You have three weeks to submit your quotes:
Quotes deadline: Saturday, February 15, your end-of-day.
2) Making Icons
Iconmakers: make icons from the quotes that inspire you, and simply post them as replies to the person who submitted them.
You may shorten/adapt the quotes as you see fit. You can make icons from the canon the quotes are from, or you can go and make crossovers or text-only icons, there are no limits to your creativity. Icon the quote as it inspires you!
You may icon quotes that have already been iconed (by yourself or someone else), but I'm hoping everyone who submits quotes will get at least one icon in return, so maybe spread it out a little bit, if your muse is willing.
You can make as many icons as you like.
Iconmakers: you have one additional week after the quotes deadline to submit icons:
Icons deadline: Saturday, February 22, your end-of-day.
Have fun! If you have questions, ask them in the Questions thread.
Promote:
3) Repeat
You can still leave more quotes here, just comment to the post. I will start another round once we have collected enough.

I'm reflecting on A) how the first thing I struggled with in writing Guardian fic was the fact that I didn't understand the language, so how to give the characters (particularly their dialogue) an at-least-consistent and ideally-in-character voice, and B) how long it took me to reject the English subtitles as a source of quotes that I was satisfied with, which I feel like was immediate but probably wasn't? (Was it the first time I suspected they weren't exactly... how I would have translated something? Was it the first time I rewatched an episode and saw that they had changed? The first time they contradicted each other, or different subbers used different words for the same thing? I don't remember.)
Both of these things made me want to understand Chinese, but this quote fest has made me think of the moments I was watching the show and a character said something that made me feel like it was possible. Usually one word in isolation, like "no," "wait," or "thank you," because then I heard a sound that I could definitively identify with a meaning that was clear to me, even independent of the English translation (not that the subs for these one-word sentences were particularly variable! just that I had more confidence in them when I already understood the meaning).
All of which is a really long way of explaining why some of the quotes that mean the most of me are:
1 - Shen Wei saying "no" ("meiyou" | 没有) in the SID interrogation room when Zhao Yunlan asks if he's connected to the murders.
2 - Shen Wei saying "wait" ("dengdeng" | 等等) when Zhao Yunlan goes to leave his apartment after the attempted mugging scene.
3 - Zhao Yunlan repeating "you don't know?" ("ni bu zhidao?" | 不知道) after Shen Wei says "don't know" in response to his question about what the Merit Brush does.

This is such a good point. I always found it hard to put text on my Guardian (or cdrama) icons, too. It actually took your comment here to realize why.
And I think it's why I focused on fic quotes so far. But I'm excited to be iconning canon quotes!

I chose the cap where Zhao Yunlan turns around, delighted that Shen Wei calls after him. It's just too cute! That's why I made a closer crop, too, because his "hee, I know you're into me" face is too good to pass up.
I made them bilingual this time, because you liked that best - but I can do other variations, just let me know.
p.s. I won't manage number 3 today, but who cares if I miss my own deadline, right? ;)

I was confused for a bit, because the scene you meant wasn't at 33:45 but at 34:45, but that means I stumbled across the Sundial scene at 33 and couldn't resist Zhao Yunlan's wink:
The quote is a little hard to translate, so there are two variations (I didn't bother with non-bilingual ones this time, either :)).

...but I'm absolutely willing to try iconing it again! And I am not sure I've done "worth it" before at all.

I feel his attitude in this scene is underappreciated. :D Like, not even the formal you! He's just like, "You're touching me, and you have one sentence to convince me I shouldn't swat you like a fly. Go."

Yesss! I love that. The Black-Cloaked Envoy has no time for your shenanigans (unless you are his life benefactor).
Great icons!
