Zhu Yilong singing for Spring Festival

Hello!

Zhu Yilong sang at least twice during lunar new year celebrations, once during the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, and once during the Dragon TV Spring Festival Gala. The former has the advantage of colorful mouse costumes (not worn by Zhu Yilong, sadly), while the latter has the advantage of significantly more Zhu Yilong. :)

I haven't found the CCTV performance online yet, but if you have a way to watch CCTV (I use Sling International), he sings "你好2020" ("Hello 2020") with four other singers and a group of talented dancers, starting at 1:53 (out of an overall 4 hour, 30 minute performance, so he's about 20 minutes before the halfway mark).

Zhu Yilong is the solo singer during his Dragon TV performance, doing "谢谢侬" ("Thank you") with accompanying dancers, and he looks very comfortable. p.s. and I didn't know how meta both those songs are (except the hello 2020, I'll just ignore that one ;D). They're all about performing and the relationship between performer and audience. No wonder he looked happy performing them.

I saw some clips of him singing on my Twitter feed yesterday. I take it the unexpectedly shiny gold jacket number is from Dragon TV and the more restrained red jacket ensembles appear on CCTV?

Zhu Yilong also did a
magic trick on CCTV (just track where Jin Dong's gaze goes after the reveal followed by ZYL's look of acknowledgement to see the "magic" of it - also when the camera pans away!!)

I know nothing of this, but I also gathered that the song he sings in the gold jacket is something a character he once played (Feng Douzi?) also sang on screen. So there's that meta snippet.

I also meant to say that I really feel for all these Chinese actors who have to also be singers (and to some extent performerrs). Imagine you're an amazing, talented young actor but you can't sing for toffee. What do you do?

I do love the shiny gold jacket. ♥ That's the "Thank you" song on Dragon TV, then there's another act, and then he does the "Applause" duet where the gold jacket is swapped for a red one. (At least this time he got an in-between act instead of having to change on-stage like he did for solar new year!)

The CCTV "Hello 2020" performance also has a red jacket, but he's wearing a red and white shirt underneath it (instead of the black and white striped shirt he has on in the Dragon TV performances).

Thank you for pointing out the magic tricks they did after the duet! I wasn't watching because they'd stopped singing, so I had to rewind and watch (multiple times, to see the sleight of hand - thank you for the tip)!

Also, now I have a whole new perspective on how "comfortable" he looked doing the "Thank you" song, knowing that it was a character song. :) He seems so much more at ease when he's channeling someone else!

I surprised myself by how much I liked the gold jacket. His performance seemed in keeping with the shiny, bouncy vibe - which, as you say, might relate to acting as a persona rather than simply singing as himself. I was pleased to see he looked in good spirits, what with what’s happening in his home city of Wuhan. Although I guess he’s such a consummate professional that we wouldn’t be any the wiser even if he were worried. Anyway, thank you for clarifying which red jacket and song goes with which event!
