I'm continuing to update the list of food and drink in Guardian, and talking about with others. So I thought I'd share a new things here. The master food and drink post has now been updated through episode 12.

[personal profile] in_the_bottle identified dried fish in episode 1. They are 小黄鱼 (xiao3 huang2 yu2) or croakers (Larimichthys polyactis).

And a helpful anon stopped by the main post and gave us some more context on fish and the identify street food they eat in episode 14. And also some insight into the decor of the room they have dinner with Uncle Guo in, including a translation of the couplet on the wall. And finally some information on the tea Shen Wei drinks with the Chancellor in episode 5. Thank you, helpful anon!

Here’s a couple of food related things I noticed or have questions about form episodes 7-12

*I’m noticing that many scenes start with zoomed in view of a cup or bowl before zooming out. Like the scene where SW feeds ZYL congee starts with shot focused on the congee bowl. A particularly dramatic instance, when Sang Zan poisons a dude in episode 11 the camera stays in close focus on the drinking bowl as it drops to the floor.

*The web novel writer in episode 7 appears to live off of instant noodles and beer. (He is also seen eating what I think are chips/crisps, and drinking wine)

*Why does Zhu Hong make ginseng tea for ZYL in episode 8? The Black Cloaked Envoy shows asks the SID to find someone, they talk about it for a bit, then Zhu Hong says she’s making tea. Why? ZYL isn’t even there to drink it. I’m very puzzled.

*Can anyone make out what Lin Jing is eating in episode 12 at 20:44? It looks like something in a tin but that’s all I can make out.
