Question: uniforms&SID, police

So. For important art reasons I need you to remind me: does the SID not have any uniforms or is it a choice of Yunlan's management style not to insist on them? I think I remember Zhao Xinci not wearing one in the flashback scenes, but maybe I’m wrong?
And if we leave the context of SID, would a detective wear a uniform in China? I only have Memory Lost as reference and there only the junior non-detective officers or the really higher ups are wearing uniforms (apart from formal occasions).

I guess the real question is: in an AU where Shen Wei is a cop, would he introduce uniforms to SID (if they were standard, he’d of course wear one) OR if he was a 'normal' detective, what kind of uniform (if any) would he wear?

Do police in China have similar divisions of standard police (who wear uniforms) vs. detectives (who don't) like the U.S. and U.K.? I've only seen U.S. and U.K. police/detective procedural shows (although that's gonna change this weekend now that Detective L is out with English subs!).

ETA: although in the U.S. cops work their way up to detective rank so maybe he'd have had to wear one at some point if it works the same there

I can't see Shen Wei actually caring about uniforms, so if it were up to him, I don't think he'd introduce them.

I don't think they have them. The only uniformed people I remember seeing are the police in the pilot episode when ZYL pulls up on his motorbike and the minions in the HDS.

I think they're meant to be more like an undercover unit, the existence of which is largely unknown to the general public, so no uniforms.

Hmmm do you not think that he’d want to convey the respect the uniform implies (in not undercover stuff? Though It’s anyone’s guess if SID have any uncovert missions).

Only in a context where uniforms are expected. Outside of that, I can't see him caring what someone wears, beyond it looking reasonably professional. And in a unit that does a lot of undercover work, uniforms and the habits that go with them would probably be counterproductive?
