Yeah, I think so. There's also the earlier discussion (I don't remember where in the novel) about how the yao are doing it all for their cultivation, and everything becomes a means to an end, so I appreciate Xiao-Guo being contrasted with that!
I'm just assuming it's actual ghosts, but it doesn't say that Lin Jing was photographing people.
Yeah, it sounded like he just took pictures of the place itself, and I have no idea what we're supposed to imagine he captured, but ghosts would make some sense.
