Oh, yeah, it could be. I do think on some level he wants to protect everyone else too, but he is largely doing it because of the promise, he says so himself. It would circle back to 'Kunlun is exempt simply because he's special to Shen Wei, not for any discernible reason', and I feel like a discernible reason would be more interesting, but it's not like Shen Wei isn't incredibly biased, and he definitely doesn't have to care about what I'd find interesting. xD
