"And even if SW protested that he would have chosen it (which he does in the previous chapter, right? he was glad to be able to relieve Kunlun of the burden?), that actually makes it worse in a way, because a) ZYL viscerally understands now how much of a burden it is, and b) SW took it on to save him."

Hmm, Kunlun was going to die either way, so there wasn't much saving or relieving to do, was there? I think Kunlun genuinely gave him a gift, to make SW not a gui as he wished, and as Kunlun's final 'fuck you' to the Heavens. Or am I missing something? That's always very possible. :D (And again, I'm attempting not to go into spoilers. :D) And I'm 100% sure SW would have chosen it, possibly even if a similar opportunity came up somewhere where Kunlun was not involved (he was this desperate to not be a gui anymore imo), but it's not really an informed choice when you don't really have any idea what kind of life the choice comes with.

"And Daqing's licking the blood drew attention to the fact that Chiyou, a war god, a kowtowed to the point that his forehead was bleeding"

Oh, maybe this? The confusing part to me is just the reason why it was specifically Daqing licking the blood that led to Kunlun changing his mind, when nothing else did, but noticing the injury in the first place could definitely be a reason. Or maybe Chiyou blessed Daqing, or maybe Kunlun realized that he should be at least as nice as a cat, lol, or maybe something else, idk. *shrug* :D
