Yeah, though we did figure out the CSZ sequence eventually, so maybe the confusing backstory will become clear too?

That's a pretty classic trope, isn't it? *googles* Wikipedia has an article! IIRC it also turns up in Discworld.
Oh, cool! I still can't remember where I encountered it, but that's interesting that it's so widespread.
