i know, isn't it amazing?! i've been trying to think of other narratives in which the central relationship between two men is the driving force behind both character development AND the main plot, there are no other love interests sprinkled in for the no-homo purposes, and the entire thing is mythical and epic and huge. and you're right, there are some similar shows and movies but guardian really is in a class of its own by the sheer scope of its canon slashiness. this production has done an INCREDIBLE job!

(also, i can't believe their luck at getting zhu yilong at the last minute to replace their originally cast shen wei, who backed out right before they started filming. because the performance we got... wow.)
