There are some really good novel/drama fusions! branchandroot has a lovely one here: https://archiveofourown.org/series/1457578 and xparrot has kind of a reverse fusion here if you ever want to try them out. It helps to have a little knowledge of Shen Wei's past with Kunlun, ie who Kunlun was in the past and who Shen Wei was in the past.
