I’ve caught a few times where he seems to talk about the puppet as its own person. I think I took that to mean it was his brother in there as well, but it seems like it’s not as episode 32 goes on? It is definitely confusing XD

So true. ZYL is okay with sacrificing himself, but not his people, which echoes Shen Wei sacrificing himself for Zhao Yunlan in its own way too! This show really did such great echoes and mirrors between the story points and characters.

Like Chu Shuzhi has stepped past the line of restraining himself, or acting logically, this begins the descent of really acting rashly and recklessly!
It's such a fascinating escalation as he more and more loses control/lets go of all his emotional restraint. The contrast is amazing, seeing him so emotional and expressive!
Sometimes I forget that his crimes WERE 100 years ago, just because Dixing in the flashbacks seems very similar to Dixing of now.
Yeah, it doesn't look any different at all, and there are even the same people around as much later (as in the Regent, the Attendant and Ding Dun)! And 100 years are such a long time; it's hard to take it seriously as a time span when there's no real visual signifier to keep the time periods apart-
And he knows he’s doing it too! I think that’s why it’s so surprising to Chu Shuzhi when Zhao Yunlan actually says no and means it!!
